yeah, that could be a better balancing point. I could have some weapons do more stunning than damage or the other way around, that way weapons could balance themselves. I could also make it realistic by making heavier caliber weapons do more, but that would just ruin balance, and balance comes before realism.
Hi everyone, hows it going? I've been a gamer for well over half my life now. I have been playing games since I was seven with the original Xbox, and now that I am 16, I have so many ideas that I want to get out there. All I need is for someone to listen. So i originally started out with Halo, then progressed over to Halo 2, and call of duty 2. When the 360 came out, I upgraded, and I remember being so excited for Halo 3. Well it seems Halo has taken a backseat to a huge franchise called Call of Duty. While previously, Call of Duty was a virtual homage to the men who served in our history's most brutal and well remembered war, it has turned into a game made for casual gamers. It seems like a title that is in everyone's home, and the franchise has seen huge success. But not everyone enjoys the enormity of the franchise, many gamers, including myself saw the franchise as going downhill after World at War. Call of Duty and games in general used to be about both the mixture of fun and entertainment, and skill and competition. Modern Warfare 2 and up have really diluted the game's skill level. The game became about being able to jump in and have fun alone, and customization. I am not saying these two factors are not positive things, in fact, most game developers want these very things. But look at games like counter-strike, dota 2, starcraft 2, ghost recon advanced warfighter, and quake. These games are highly successful, but they require something that is absent from Call of Duty, and most shooters today; Skill Many a time have I raged at Modern Warfare 3 and 2(and very rarely Black Ops). These games have boiled down to traffic games where the only factor in your success is where you position yourself at specific times. All you need to know are spawns and you are good. However, that does not stop you from being killed from behind or from being defeated by the enemy's perks rather than their gun play. So for much time now, I thought about how to improve the series and how the game would be like if it was made for competitive gamers rather than casual ones. After pondering on the topic I have come to my conclusion. This thread is how I will express to you how the game will play and be like, code named Phoenix. Why phoenix? Rebirth. The series will be reborn into a new game. One involving skill and balance. So lets start simple and do a little overview. OVERVIEW: game will be strictly multiplayer based the game will have a selection of guns to chose from a few game modes from the series will return maps will be custom tailored to certain game modes, and most maps will be game mode specific This is all I can really do as an overview, in order to convey what I am saying, I'm gonna have to go in depth on every aspect. Hit-boxes and Player Traits: The hit-box of each character will be the same as with the original series. CATEGORY(#x damage multiplier) -headshot damage(3x) -Torso damage (1x) -Upper left torso damage(3x) -Arms (.75x also causes a decrease in accuracy and an increase in weapon sway along with grenade throwing distance) -Legs (.75x also causes a decrease in movement and sprint speed along with a decrease in jump height) -hands (.50x same effect as arm damage) -feet (.50x same effect as leg damage) As you can see, locational damage is going to be in the game. The heart and head area will do critical damage. Whilst getting shot in the appendages or extremities causes a negative effect on you. The effect wears off 5 seconds after you are regenerated to full health. It will take around three seconds to start regenerating health after you take damage, and another five seconds to fully regenerate your health. This is done purposely to make taking damage a big deal as you can become easily finished off after you are hurt. Assuming all damage is done to the torso, the player can take roughly: 4-6 shots from an assault rifle 5-7 shots from an SMG 3-5 shots from an HMG 1-2 shots from a bolt action sniper 2-3 shots from a semi auto sniper 1 shot from a shotgun at close range 3-5 shots from a semi DMR 1-3 bursts from a burst DMR one grenade at close range 2 quick knife slashes, unless from behind or to the head 1 equipped knife slash 1 rocket or explosion weapons do not affect movement speed, however LMGs, RPGs, and Sniper rifles will decrease overall spint distance. SMGs, pistols, equipping the knife, and shotguns will allow you to sprint slightly further. From reading this you will notice that in Phoenix, you take more damage than in previous games. You will also notice that knife slashes are no longer instant kills, I'll touch more on this later. Aiming down the sight is the same speed for all weapons other than the snipers(slower), RPGs(slower), and pistols(faster). Spawning and General Map Layouts: -Spawning in previous Call of Duty games usually consisted of players spawning randomly at locations that the game detected as a safe distance away from enemies. However, when other games are sampled such as Counter-Strike or Team Fortress 2 or even Battlefield, spawning occurs distinctly in bases that usually remain inaccessible for the most part to the opposing team. These spawn systems work well when there is an objective, but they might not work so well when the only objective is to slaughter the opposing team. However, this method can work efficiently if there were multiple set bases for each team on the map. However, the implementation would be finicky and where you guys could come and help me decide. Either the bases could be stationary and the players could pick which base they spawned in on OR the bases could rotate so the team spawned on a select base for a certain time period. THIS IS ALL FOR NOW, TUNE IN TOMORROW WHEN I UPDATE MY IDEAS FURTHER; thank you for reading i love you C:
Everyone is a potato with appendages and opposable thumbs. Oh and we have faces, but all male faces look the same and all female faces look the same. It solves all problems, potatoes never eat, never fight, never nag you to buy expensive jewelry, never create nuclear weapons. Oh and never eat one another?
So I'm sure all of you have played the sims and heard of spore before. Now before you think that I think these are the greatest games of all time and such and whatever let me explain myself So I've always been fascinated by sims and spore-esque games where you get to play "the creator" and you can do practically whatever, I was really disappointed by spore, because I thought the game was going to be different that the way it turned out. See instead of creating a microscopic life form and playing as that life form with a goal to become the dominant species, I though the game would be more observation based. I thought you would have been able create the planet, the geography, the climate, and I thought you would essentially plop down your creation on the planet and see how it behaves, what it does and what it eats. But that was not the experience I got with spore. SO WHAT AM I SAYING! What I'm saying is that I think it would make for a good game. The premise is simple, you choose how large you want your world to be(tiny, small, average, large, humungous, epic) then you choose from a set of mutators that will control your world, things like terrain, weather, time cycle, resources, bodies of water, starting species, bugs, prey, and such. Alternatively you can create a true custom map and have that as a play space. Then, you create an organism at its basic form. Afterwords, you plop it down into your world and see how it behaves. You can also create multiple organisms and choose where and how many you want in the play-space, this is cool because you can have multiple species present that will behave and interact differently with one another and their environment. Now this is the interesting part, you can choose to sit and observe what it does in the name of science, or you can change and adapt the world. You can do things like cause rain or snowfall, terraform, create a disease, cause a famine, add or subtract resources, and even add or subtract organisms. Organisms will evolve over time to be able to do things more efficiently, sometimes they will change color, grow limbs, and other times they will lose a sense in order to gain a new one or sharpen another. Evolution happens over thousands of years which will pass in the game after only a few hours of game time. It will take a few million years for a species to evolve to sentience and another million to have them progress to intelligent life forms. Once they are intelligent enough, the game will end, and that species will win. So that's the bare bones of it for now. I hope you all like it and enjoyed reading through this, remember to keep the thread alive with ideas criticism and such!
