I think what I'll do is take a video of some gameplay in fraps, so that we can all see what the game looks like frommy perspective. Maybe then we'll be able to see where the problem lies.

Thanksagain for the new replies guys. I tried out Empire Total War again today, and I must say that for a game in "Ultra" settings, it simply looks appauling. I find it tremendously hard to believe that this is "just the way the game is", because to be perfectly honest, it looks like absolute rubbish. Perhaps the picture doesn't quite do justice to how appauling the game actually looks whilst playing it. Trees look like splodges in the distance, and soldiers seem to float across the screen once they reach a certain radius from the camera, and as i said before, the jagged lines make everything look undefined and crappy. Furthermore, when I enter the battle-map (i.e as soon as I start a battle in the demo) the screen flickers until I change the graphical settings. I refuse to believe that my hige-end graphics card is capable of producing pixellated 2d visuals, and just to reinforce what I said earlier,I have AA set up in the Catalyst Control Centre (to 8x)as well as in-game, to 8x respectively. Drivers are updated, graphics card upgraded, power supply swapped, so my next question is "Could it be the RAM?"
By the time I'm finished solving this graphical problem, I fear that I will no longer be using my original hardware, since everything in this god-forsaken rig will have been upgraded already.
What can I do?
Thanks for the suggestion. I did what you asked me to do and I did in fact notice a slight improvement. However, the game still looks poor despite this. For example, when soldiers move away from the screen, they become 2d shapes andappear as though they are floating towards the enemy.

Oh its just because I took a screenshot and copied it into paint. I haven't learnt how to do it any other way.
You are mistaken. I have already set the resolution to my native resolution (1680x1050) so that is not the problem.
Hello, I'm having a problem with my visuals on games (such as Empire Total War). The problem is this: when I play the games, I see jagged lines along the outlines of shapes (anything on-screen, especially shapes which are far away). I have uploaded a picture of some Empire Total War visuals to help illustrate the problem.

Steps I have already taken to try and get of the problem: I have already replaced the graphics card (to an ATI 4870) and monitor (to a Samsung Syncmaster T220) and the power supply (to an OCZ 600 watt stealthxstream). I have searched endlessly for a solution to the problem on other forums (Tech Support Forums etc.) with little success. My processor is a Q6600 and I have 3 GB of RAM. The Anti-Aliasing is at 4x and the Antistropic Filtering is at 16x also (believe it or not!)
Any help would be much appreciated, since I have been trying to fix this since the dawn of time. I was heartbroken when I found that upgrading my GPU had not sorted out the problem and I could not play MTW without a flickering screen andjagged, blurrygraphics
PLEASE HELP! I could explode right now!
Slig0 I have tried the steps that you told me to follow, but was not able to find the options for triple buffering or vsync. Everything else has had no effect.
I have also taken a screenshot of my desktop - funnily enough, some icons appear sharp whereas others appear pixelated (the Far Cry icon for example). Is this normal?
