I recently built a new computer and it doesn't seem to be working...

Compnents:

Intel xeon e3 1230 v3

MSI z87 mpower

16 gp ram

3 TB hdd

Cooler master 525 Watt psu

The motherboard indicator says that the bios is loading and the keyboard and mouse both have power, though the monitor never gets any signal...

Btw, I only used one of the two four pin power connections to the mother board because that's all my psu would support, could this be the problem?

Any ideas?

So a friend of mine is going off to university next year and was asking me for advice for a laptop. He needs a good battery life, large hard drive, and overall fast and reliable computer. He would probably also want to do some mild gaming on it.
