Today, November 27, 2007, is Jimi Hendrix's 65th birthday. Everybody knows who Jimi Hendrix is, otherwise they have no soul. The revolutionary guitarist did in 27 years, what noone else has achieved in a normal lifetime. He changed the way we though of guitar, and now, every great guitarists is in some way influenced by him. No matter what music you play, hard rock, blues, grunge (that's me), metal, or anything, something rekated to what you do, was somehow revolutionized by Hendrix. No mattee if you are a devoted Hendrix fan, or you've only heard perhaps "Purple Haze" or "Fire", you can't deny that guy was amazing. Undoubtedly the single greatest guitarist of all time. Nobody will ver be as good as him. Hell, the only person who has gotten close to Hendrix's skill is Clapton, and he doesn't measure up even comparably with Hendrix. If you think he's overrated, you can go just go somewhere and think about it real carefully, because you know I'm right. Hendrix f'ing rocked.
Now onto more of a musical view at Hendrix. He was never taught anything about guitar like most people are. He just got a guitar one day, and he began rocking. He quickly rose to become a British favorite, and eventually, a star in America as well. He headlined the famous Woodstock festival, where he blew everybody away, with his blues influenced rocking. Hendrix was by no means a rock guitarist, but simply a blues guitarist behind a wall of distortion. The sad, quick riffing, purposefully made sloppy by the fuzz, his amazing riffing, and ability to sing and solo at the same time, not only was he the greatest guitarist of all time, but without a doubt, one of the five greatest rock musicians of all time. I'lll now do a short lyrical dedication to Hendrix, and post some of his most memorable lyrics:
"Scuse me well I kiss the sky" from Purple Haze
"And so castles made of sand, slips onto the sea. eventually" from Castles Made of Sand
"I didn't mean to take up all your swett time, I'll give it right back to ya, one of these days" from "Vooodoo Child (Slight Return)"
"Fly on little wing" "from Little Wing"
"I don't live today, maybe tomorrow, I just can't say" "from "I Don't Live Today"
"After all the jacks are in their boxes, and the clouds have all gone to bed, you can hear happiness, staggering on down the street, footprints, dressed in red, and the wind cries Mary" from "The Wind Cries Mary"
Here are five videos of Hendrix. The first is a perfect example of his ability to multi-task, singing and shredding at the same time. The rest are pretty much comepletely about his playing:

You are dearly misssed.
P.S. I realize for most of the world, it's no longer the 27th, but bear with me.
