Top 5 Movies of 2007

I've finally gotten to see every great movie from last year, and I'm ready to make a list.

5. Superbad

Ctude? Yes. Tasteless at times? Yes. Does it have the best plot? No. Does it still somehow manage to squeeze out more laughs from you until you can't breathe? Yes! Call it a guilty pleasure if you will, but you can't deny that you laughed at least 50 times during this movie. Every line is unforgettable, and the parts were well cast to fit the personalities of each character. I don't really know how I'm going to describe how disturbing this movie is, but it's still one of the funniest movies to exist.

4. American Gangster

This movie gives the story of famous druglord Frank Lucas, and his amazing and unusual capture. The story of his street-life are eery and in a strange way amazing that what he could do was flawlessly pulled off. Possibly the best part was the background story of his family relationships. This is an awe inspiring, edge of your seat drama, that satisfies you down to the last frame.

3. Ratatouille

Pure genius. Those are the only two words that come close to describing the amazing folks at Pixar. They seem to be filled to the brim with amazing stories and unique ideas. This is perhaps the best film they have EVER made. It's possibly the best animated movie ever as well. Although it's fiction and completely ridiculous, the story is inspiring and never ceases to make you laugh. There are twists at every corner, and you won't find a bad moment inn the movie. Even somebody who isn't a fan of animation would love this movie.

2. Juno

I saw this movie for the second time last night, and I'm pleased to say, it only gets better the more times you see it. The jokes are quick witted and perfectly delivered at all times. The jokes are intelligent and creative, and the drama is amazing. It's a touching comedy which is worth one, two, or even three views before it comes to DVD. It is one of those movies that doesn't wear out no matter how many times you see it.

AND THE BEST MOVIE OF 2007 IS...

1. No Country For Old Men

I've never befor seen a movie so powerful and intense, so strange yet clear. Most importantly, I've never seen an ending as good as this one. The ending leaves room for thought and makes one want to see it again and again just to relive the intensity. I'm now reading this book for school, and it further extends my understanding of the movie. The acting was done flawlessly and The Coen brothers have truly outdone themselves. This is possibly my favorite movie of all time.

WARNING: RANDOM IDEA APPROACHING

I just got the best idea. You know how much I love Soundgarden right? And how Chris Cornell, best rock singer ever is currently a solo artist and doesn't have a decent band with him? I was just watching an Alice in Chains video and got the idea: maybe Chris Cornell should replace William DuVall as the AiC vocalist. This seems crazy, but think about it. Chris Cornell's voice today is no better than Layne Staley's voice would be if he was alive, so why not fire that screecher called DuVall (he's not bad, but just not AiC material) and get a singer who is somewhat like Staley? This will never happen, but it should.
