Today, I picked up a few new CDs. Here they are.
Sonic Youth- "Daydream Nation"
Elmis once described Sonic Youth's sound as "plablocity", and said that their "plablocity was never better than it was on 'Daydream Nation'". I haven't finished listening to it yet, but so far it rocks socks. My favorite album of the '80s so far. It kicks the sh!t out of anything you'll find today.
"Temple of the Dog" by Temple of the Dog
This is without a doubt, the single greatest vocal perfomance album. Chris Cornell, the greatest singer ever, and Eddie Vedder, one of the greatest ever, play with Vedder's future bandmates in Pearl Jam, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, and Matt Cameron (also a then Soundgardener) to make one of the greatest grunge albums ever. "Say Hello 2 Heaven" is my favorite vocal song of all time. Eddie shines through on "Hunger Strike", and Mike and Stone deliver beautiful riffs and rocking solos. Matt will always be one of my favorite drummers, so he rocks as always. Jeff rocks too.
I know it seems like whenever I get new albums they get in my top ten, but these, could get in. "Daydream Nation", well if you've heard it you know why, and "Temple of the Dog" is absolutely amazing. I'm going to listen to them again tonight, and I'll review them, and see where they rank in my albums.
