I think what he did was just fine I mean he just won a gold medal at the olympics in WORLD record time and completely destroyed his competition I think that is something to celebrate.SeanUD1
There would have been nothing wrong wwith celebrating at the end of the race... You guys can say whatever you want but his gesture was clearly not of a respectful athlete. WHO wouldn't be happy to be the fastest man on earth aand destroy the other sprinters in a disgraceful manner? I talk of spirit because it's not every olympics that you get sprinters running the way Bolt does or celebrating before the end... Every athlete puts their heart into it from start to end regardless of the circumstances... Bolt looks to the right to see if Asafa is coming up to defy him and celebrates when he realises his superiority.
I do not condemn his performance, it's just his attitude that uncanny. I give him all praise for what he has done to athletics (especially showing that tall guys, like me, can sprint as fast (we now faster) as shorter one. I hope he matures in his later stages as an athlete and that he gives a little respect to his oppponents.
I heard there is a nice little bonus waiting everytime your able to beat the WR. Perhaps that explains it?Burnsmiesta
Still not a valid reason...
My 2nd disappointment is in Asafa Powell... The guy has got a very weak mentality but unfortunately not everyone is as confident as Phelps or Bolt.
Apart from Bolt, nobody ran the way they should have or normally could have. Some have waited 4 years only to end up lightyears behind the leader... How is this so? Stress/pressure, intimidation, fear, lack of self-condidence, lack of training (some have been critical about the american olympic trials... the complaint has been that it is not beneficiary for the athletes to have their trials a months before the games... correct me if i'm wrong)... I don't know.
Now i come to the main topic. Yes I was dumbfounded, as were you all whole saw the race live on tv or in China. I was already impressed at the way he Bolt could take the time to look sideways, control his speed, slow down and still run under 10s. Jeez it looked like he was jogging in the heats and semis. The final race was one of the greatest i've ever seen and after my delirious reaction to the "way" he finished the race, I opened my eyes:
Yes, he won his race in the most amazing fashion ever seen in history of the discipline but was it necessary to slow down and show the "wings of glory" (it's not an official term btw! lol)? T$For me that was a lack of olympic spirit and a lack of respect to his adversaries no matter how much slower they were than he was. The Olympics are about doing your best from start to finis not showing the world how "wack" your opponents are and how fantabulous your talent us (ok it is about that but not in such a self-centered manner). Bravo to you Usain, but I would have preferred you to lower the record (as you obvioulsy could have), congradulate your opponents, (maybe console your country men) and then go for your victory run. There was more media and showing-off in his victory than there was morals and, fair-play and olympic spirit.
I'm not even american but Usain could learn a lot from true champions that give it their best ALL the time like Phelps. The day someone beats you (and i'm hoping it'll be Asafa) the WHOLE world will remember the 16th of August '08.
I beg thee to differ
[QUOTE="Delongman"]If you're a deist then say yay! Religion in itself is too corrupt for me to step back into church. You remember that historyy lesson when there was Italy monopolizing the role of pope intheir country? Or the time there was so much confusion that we had 3 popes? Or the time the church used to promise that the folks would go to heven if they pay up? Ok that's history and that stuff has been corrected, but the past remains the past.
There are so many religions out there that there can and never was compromise. Everybody claims to be right. And because of that those who are not in the right camp they are condemned eternally... Nah i dnt think God would do that. There are too many extremes in religion that are controversial, dangerous and unfounded or that lack concrete proof (i'm sure you can think up a lot of them but i won't mention any so as not to hurt certain beliefs).
I know good people who don't go to church and hypocrites who just go for the image. People should first open their eyes, assess themselves and see what God really wants. He left us here... gave us freedom, logic and a brain. We made rules, morals and came across religion. People should filter what's good from what's bad. I feel that that's even better than following religion. I'm not an atheist... The only prayer i say is "forgive us our sins" and "thank you for creation"... Damn i have the feeling that i've written anger-spawning stuff but this is what i feel in my heart and what i think God wants.

What kind of a deist prays to God? A deist God is aloof; he doesn't intervene. Praying to him is, therefore, pointless.
My prayers don't involve him intervening. I know he won't intervene but it's the least i can say. Just those 2 prayers...
