2019 was a fantastic year in gaming that offered a diverse line-up across many genres. From kart racers like Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled to the ever-booming Indie scene with games like My Friend Pedro or Untitled Goose Game, there really was something for everyone in 2019!

Of course, we also had some very big releases this year-- some of which I have yet to play, which might explain some glaring omissions from my list. Games like Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 are fantastic returns to form from Capcom, both of which helped breath some new life into their respective franchises. Respawn Entertainment also had a great 2019 with the release of Apex Legends, their own take on the very popular battle-royale genre. Kingdom Hearts III concluded the longstanding story arc of Sora, Donald, and Goofy while delivering the best gameplay the series has seen to date! Remedy also made a big comeback with Control, a game set in an odd paranormal world that the players must explore to uncover it's mysteries. I also can't forget A Plague Tale: Innocence with focused on a heartfelt story between two siblings in a harsh and unforgiving world.

From Software once again took the crown for me with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, all thanks to the stealth-action twist it brought to the Souls formula. The addition of stealth, bigger emphasis on precision and the new combat mechanics managed to create a game that requires patience and skill. Yet, it allows for breakneck moments of combat and exploration. In true From Software fashion, the world of Sekiro is well-realized and enticing to explore, much like its predecessors had been with Bloodborne and the Dark Souls series, which adds a lot to the overall experience of the game.

I was surprised at how many different types of games I considered for this list. It's fairly easy to fall into a routine where one plays similar types of games without even noticing it however I genuinely think 2019 as a whole managed to offer a lot of different high-quality experiences, from indie hits to large AAA games.

Here is hoping 2020 is just as fun!
