I used to balk at the idea of my PS3 constantly updating my games (and on PSN, they take FOREVER! :x). But now I look at it like a godsend...I never got around to appreciating machines doing things for me until today...I was playing my Vampire the Masquerade game, and boy is this damn thing buggy! I mean, some main quests couldn't be finished because the dialogue option wasn't there, or a door that was supposed to unlock wouldn't, the list goes on...yes, I had to go out of my way to look for the latest updates and manually install them. First, it was textures that lacked detail (which so happens to affect things like writing on the walls to my health meter) then what I've stated before...well, everything's good now, but here's the scary part: these are un-official patches, meaning that while the devs dropped support for the game years ago, I'm actually thanking those nice guys, who are gamers like us, who spent all that time fixing the game and sharing their labor.
On another note, been playing Mafia as well, and I'm pretty suprised on how well this game holds up. The graphics are still mind-blowing for a game this old, not to mention the neat little touches added: your car can actually run out of gas, police will chase you for speeding or running a red light and actually ask you to step out of your vehicle as you watch a cutscene of a cop writing you a speed ticket (although you'll see a cop actually write with an "invisible pen and paper." Remember, this game is OLD! :P). Still, a game way ahead of its time, and making me even more excited to play Mafia 2 :D.
