I use DOSBox to run em and http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/ to find old games. It was a little tricky to get the hang of at first since I forgot all the dos commands.
Definitely. My friend started playing DF and loves it. I'm still on the fence about getting into another pay 2 play though. If I do, it'll be this one. One thing I like about it is the leveling system (or lack thereof), there aren't character levels, only skill levels. With this mechanic you have no template that you're bound to so it's completely up to you the kind of character you want. Also the real stealth is pretty neat. You don't go invisible or anything like that but you have to be aware of shiny armor or weapons so the enemy can't see light gleaming off of you from a distance. hmmm I'm starting to convince myself to go for it =D
I would definitely go with CSS. TF is cool, better graphics and fun weapons but is got kinda old quick. With Counter Strike there are endless mods you can try when you want something besides deathmatch. Zombie mode is my favorite =D
Yeah, the downloaded version seems to be the only one effected. I used to use the cd copy until it was worn out :D I asked EA to send a cd copy of BF2:CC since that is what I paid for and have yet to play. I doubt they will though...although I did have 4 new unlocks when I logged on. Too bad I can't enjoy them for more than 5 minutes at a time : /
Just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about and how little EA is doing about it: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/222504.page Basically, an EA mod started this thread about the issue more than 3 months ago talking about how they're looking into it. Eventually just abandoned any notion of fixing this.
When I had the cd version a while back it ran fine also. Since April of this year the downloaded version is having major issues with ctd's. Still searching EA forums but to no avail. I just wanna enjoy what I gave money for. Here's a basic run down of my specs: -Pentium D CPU 3.2GHz (2 CPUs) -2046MB RAM -DirectX 9.0c -Vid Card: NVidia GeForce 9500 GT, 512MB, DDR2
Yesterday I paid for, downloaded and installed BF2: the Complete Collection from EA (first mistake). I played bf2 before and loved it but for some reason everyone and their brother is having ctd issues now, I wish I would have browsed EA's forums first. My machine has more than enough head room to run this game. After updating everything i possibly can the game keeps crashing after about 5 minutes. EA tech support has literally offered no solution at all. Do yourself a favor and don't give them your money for a game they've given up on. /rant off
