I've never played the game, don't have any interest in the genre, but the people I have known who have played it really loved it.

@so_l0w: Makes me think the registry for the game is corrupted.

The safest advice I can give you is try to restore your PC back to a date before you first installed the game then install it again and see if that helps.

I'm going to state the obvious because I don't know your experience with PCs, but when you restore your PC back to a previous date you will lose anything you've changed on your PC since that date.
