Happy New Year ? .... yeah right ...

I was thinking to myself the other day, that new technology is just not built to with-stand years of use. You look at old cars, although they are fuel guzzlers and have none of the flashy gadgets, they seem to keep on going and going. A new car, well a computer goes and your car is stuck in the middle of the road until it gets to a repair shop and costs $1100 just for the central locking ..... A fridge built in 1959, is still going outside as our drinks fridge, our new westinghouse, bought 2003, is on the verge of death. The manufacturers just seem to have us by the neck as we need to get replacing our essential hardware we use everyday. Thus my story begins ... Built a new computer in October, using a Green Western Digital HDD, yesterday I thought I would install the couple of games I got for xmas, Call of Duty 4, and Dead Space. Played COD for about an hour before turning the machine off and enjoying a nice relaxing New Year's eve with my wife. This morning "Please insert system disc and press enter" ... well I thought okay, left the game disc in the drive, nope, no disc in drive. So off with the computer and on again. Same again ..... okay, check bios settings ... yep HDD is recognised... HDD smart monitoring is recognised in Post boot screen... but still same message. And I thought, just why would a HDD fail exactly 3 months after purchase, just happens to be the swap over period for WD... mmmmm... I am not amused..... Hope everyone's else NYE started better than mine.
