People always complain about new inventions and such.

A lot of them may be stupid. But don't forget: most of the inventions we have today were born from many failed ideas.

I think marketing does have something to do with it.

People want to play as the default hero and maleshep was the default hero.

The majority of people picked male on Mass Effect 1 as well.

People who play ME3 are most likely established fans of the series and so they probably continued with their original Shephard.

And so it's not surprising that the results would be consistent.
