@lonesamurai1: well, the ballyhoo machine (thesaurus :D ) is a two way street. Hello games sold a lot of checks their game couldn't cash. So I think I'm just in including them under the ballyhoo umbrella. Not to mention those grossly misrepresentative videos. The sheer amount of broken promises the devs let loose in interviews. That gave the media tons of ammo to ballyhoo the hell out of this game. I give a lot of credit to SC, since their claims are much more founded, but, like I said I don't buy into anything until it's finished. I just wish for humanities sake more people would adopt this policy, I peak my head into the mainstream and I'm devastated as to how people are behaving.

Disclosure; I do enjoy NMS for what it is, probably because I'm on disability with an injured back from years of abusing it. Ironically I had it confused with star bound, which I find very satisfying. I said "huh, didn't think it'd be 3D, unity, thought it was indie. No, I don't engage myself in prelaunch media. I get any information from podcasts. I'm out 60 bucks but I got a weeks worth of space ADHD simulator. Hah. If you're wondering how I know about NMSes media machine. I heard about it in Jim sterlings podcast, and did a little research, since I'm 60 dollars invested already. Even retroactively, and somewhat satisfied with what I bought I was disappointed at what was promised.

@Stiler: I didn't watch the stream, I don't consume myself in pre launch hype. I'd rather play games than be a stalwart writing droves of comments defending them. :/

@mdinger: There are a lot of people like me who are tired of seeing fandom turn into zealotry. People getting death threats over negative opinions of games. When I see pieces like this. I get a little sad. Gamespot hyped the hell out of NMS and now they're saying "aw, it should be like THIS GAME" pre launch it was the second coming. What happens if SC doesn't live up to their hype machine? Are they going to just shift over the creative deficits to another upcoming game? This leaves fans embroiled in crusades, with death threats flowing. Personally I'm a bit worried. The game has been in creative limbo for some time, it's being worked on, but it's becoming a four-hundred headed hydra. It may be better for it. But..doesnt always work out. Hope it does though, I'm looking forward to a game that will make my wife hate me for spending a grand or so on new everything for my PC experience,

@lonesamurai1: SC can be anything it wants, just as NMS wa before it launched. Prelaunch playable demos were amazing. All of that footage we saw. Awe inspiring. Launch was another story. A lot of us, well, I'll just speak for myself, were not saying SC is going to be shit, or it's a bag of hot air. But I'm saying there needs to be some caution when putting faith and loyalty in something that hasint released yet. The industry has proven time and time again it's a big mistake. That said, I always hope for the best, and I want people to have fun. I'm disappointed in NMS, but it's soaked up some of my time at home on disability, I want people to have fun. And if people don't want to take some caution in getting overhyped...At least some of us tried to temper expectations. I think with good reason seeing as how people have been getting death threats over critisism and sterlings site got ddosed over bad coverage. There was a Reddit post comparing pre launch hype versus retail features..the author was forced to delet the post and his account over threats. That's really..really sad.

No. Fuuuck no. I don't think it's right to hype a pie in the sky molyenux esque game fuled by promises, then double back and point to ANOTHER ONE and say "this bag of hot air needs to be like THIS bag of hot air". I mean come on, this is really irresponsible.

@Erebus: wait, demons souls didn't do it for you? I mean I understand that your examples are iterations of existing games, and they're quite old. Demons souls doesn't fit that timeline. I'd say; I haven't been blown away since Demons souls.
