I recently viewed a teaser trailer for the Movie "Thor" online. I had mixed reactions. One, I was happy to see that they(Marvel) weren't going with a known quantity as their lead role(unlike the choice for the Green Lantern movie). However I'm not sure about leaving behind the original character's origins in favor of a totally different story.
I do understand the reasons. The trend towards movie realism(even in a so called Superhero/Comic genre) has done well for the studio in the past. You need only look at the success of the Batman and Spiderman reboots to see the reasoning behind the move. Still... I wonder if it will work into their overall goals for the Avengers movie and possible sequels?
If it turns out that Thor flops in the story area and the movie tanks... what will they do? Knock the Thor character out of the Avengers for that forthcoming movie? Seems like quite a gamble to me. Then again Marvel is know for making big gambles.
Hey... I'm a fan. I'm just sayin' they need to make sure that Thor is as strong a character(developmentally) as Iron Man. You only have to look at their failures to see a possible overshadowing. None of the Avengers is a 'sidekick', they need to have presence on the screen and yet have enough balance not to draw attention away from the others.
It's going to be interesting to see how things go.
One things for sure. I'm going to enjoy watching these characters fully realized on the screen! It's going to be a fun ride.
