[QUOTE="Skie7"][QUOTE="favre4thewin"]Is it even possible to have any original concept for a WWII shooter.

Yes, I can think of many ways to make an original WWII shooter. How about a stealth-based WWII shooter where you play a spy. Is stealth-based spy new to FPS? No. New to WWII shooters? Yes. How about a WWII game that focuses on the occult? Put the character (squad?) in forest haunted by the dead that have been raised - zombies, vampires, ghosts, etc. You could even be a special team sent in to deal with the problem so the allied forces can advance. Or you could go the other route, you could be a supernatural being. A werewolf could have interesting gameplay with day missions being more standard WWII fare and night missions where you tear your enemies asunder. It would also answer the question as to why health regenerates in the game. It'd also make for some fantastic unique events where you could be left for dead, regenerate, and your own squad (who saw your dead body) fears you. It could also provide a new take on multiplayer where you have a werewolf vs. a team of German soldiers. And that is just the tip of the iceberg for making an "original concept" WWII shooter. Very nice. I wonder why everyone just makes you a normal soldier going through all the famous battles. If you can come up with three good ideas off the top of your head, why can't devs do it when they are paid to?It's probably not because developers DON'T think about ideas like this, it's because they can't get their marketing teams and higher-up executives on board with it. New ideas are always risky, and while sometimes they pay off in big, big ways, from a risk perspective you're probably better off going with the well-treaded path. Incidentally, isn't the Wolfenstein series WWII-occult themed?
My problem with the Conduit's art direction is that I don't think a big Wii release can afford to be generic. With Killzone, GoW, etc on more powerful systems, why play a generic soldiers-and-aliens game on the Wii when you can get prettier generic soldiers-and-aliens elsewhere? Sure, there are the interesting weapons, but not sure if that's enough of a selling point. So far Wii has used unique art direction to its advantage (NMH, Madworld), and I think it should continue down that road. Surprise us with something new.
