Games just don't match up this gen.

Interesting correlation: this is the first gen in awhile without a Legacy of Kain game. Coincidence? I'm thinkin not.

As a whole I just don't feel it for most PS3 games. Which is sad because for awhile there I was just doubting my interest in the industry, when really its just the current trend of bad games. And I shouldn't really say they're bad, because a lot of games this gen could have been great, but they just lacked that edge. It's like.. technically in all aspects games are good, but there is no spark beyond that technical prowess.

I don't think I've had a game this gen that's truly gripped me and pulled me into the story like I did with quite a number of games from last gen. Yes RDR is fun. Yes Uncharted1&2, Dragon Age, Demon's Souls were all "good games", but they just aren't all that memorable. The Elder Scroll series is a great example. Oblivion is a technical success and a fun game. It just sucks compared to Morrowind.

I didn't really like Uncharted either. I don't think I even finished it before trading it in.

It was like.. a bad Tomb Raider experience with a generic shooter thrown in.

You better amend this to "best aside from MGS4" or this is going to get out of hand.

I'm curious to see how far we can go in graphics before it becomes "too real". I find a great many games that I find more enjoyable because they aren't as real looking. For example, I actually prefer WoW's graphics to say Vanguard's.

The higher the realism, the less the fantasy I fear. However, I could be wrong.

Also I wouldn't mind a generation where we stopped pushing the technical envelope as hard and moved on to more creative concepts in the actual games.

I'd also like to vote for Superman 64.

The best part about that game is SO many people tried to like it. And we all failed and its such a memorable one. The generations before us talked about 'Nam. I talk about Superman 64.

I will say Ratchet & Clank was pretty good, but I always loved R&C games. Heavenly Sword would make for a good renter, only because you can probably rent it, beat it, and return it before the store closes.

I think you 360 boys are missing the point.

360 had already established itself when GoW and Halo 3 came out. Yes those games did help sell some consoles, a little, but MGS4 is the staple game people are waiting to buy a PS3 for. I work at Gamestop and I hear it almost every day. I ask frequent customers when they are going to buy a PS3 and they reply with "When its cheaper or when MGS4 comes out."

Which isn't to say MGS4 is going to be as big of a staple as like.. Halo 1 was to Xbox.. but to date for PS3, it's likely going to draw the largest crowd.

everyone except me will worwhip uncharted to no end.

its a repetitive game that is beautiful but shallow. the gamplay happens to work well

resistance doesnt look nearly as good but its more fun(imo) and no one can deny the replayability/how long it will last you. way more bang for your buck. uncharted is a rental imo.

useLOGIC

I agree here.

Uncharted is a superb renter, I think. I think most of the PS3 community has been brainwashed or something because I didn't think Uncharted was all that good. Looked great and the characters were mildly interesting, but it was repetitive and as the guy I'm quoting says, shallow. It needed more open-world, more puzzles, more something.

Dang. So many Uncharted fans here.

I couldn't even finish that game. I got tired of the run into a room...duck.. pop up.. shoot 20 guys.. gather their ammo.. rinse/repeat. Why did you all like it so much? and I mean really. There are better shooter/adventure games. =P

and my vote goes to DMC4, Oblivion, or Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Oblivion for the replay value.

^^ Truth

I loathed lining up a jump in Tomb Raider. I'd miss it 99/100 times.
