For those of you who don't know, the Metroid series is one of Nintendo's most famous franchises. You play as Samus, a space bounty hunter that works for the Galactic Federation and is known for Thwarting the Space Pirates' many evil plans. Now, some of you might know Metroid Prime: Hunters (MPH for short) was the most anticipated DS game ever. Why wouldn't it? Not only is itthe first Metroid game with online multiplayer, it also introduces six new "bounty hunters" to play as online. Each hunter hashis/her own signature weapon and a special power (affinity) with said weapon. In addition, each hunter is gifted withhis/her ownalternate form (Alt-form). When launch day came, the online community was huge. MPH became the game to have for the DS. Sadly, it did not last. Over time, many problems were discovered. Now the community has diminished because of this. today, I'm going to talk about the balance issues with some of the weapons.
Weapons
- Shock Coil: This weapon fires waves of electricity that have a slight homing effect andget more powerfull the longer they're attached to an opponent. Since this weapon homes in on a target, it is often refered to as a "noob" weapon. Of course, the alt-forms in the game are to fast for the shock coil to be effectivly against them. Because of this, people think of it as useless. Inorder to balance this weapon, the damage should be slower and should be more effective against alt-forms. Also, the affinity ability, which increases your health, should be slowed down too.
- Battlehammer: The battlehammer rapidly fires projectiles in an arc. It also holds up to 149 shots, which is good. But its the weakest weapon in the game. So all this weapon needs is to be stronger. Then it'll finally be useful. The affinity battlehammer (although its more powerful than the original because of its wide blast radius) should have the best attributes of its non-affinity cousin: the rapid fire and149 shots (the affinity has 119 shots).
- Missles (affinity): Although the non-affinity missles are well balanced, Samus'are a broken mess. When charged, they're cabable of homing in on targets from large distances.Noreal aiming reqired. The fact that the charge only uses up 3 missles only makes it worse. The homing should be weakned and the charge should use up more missles.
- Imperialist: This is the worst of them all. Not only is it broken, its shattered into many, many pieces. Theimperialist is MPH's version of a sniper rifle. Supposedly, you have to stand stillwhile looking in the scope to get a steady shot, just like any other sniper rifle. However, with enough practice you can use this weapon while running across the map. Makingmost tactics you would use against a stationary sniper useless.Getting instantly killed by a sniper has allways been annoying in any FPS, but not at this level.
Well thats all the time I have today. I'll have to continue another day. I hope you've found my rant to be moderately educational.
