Lol some people don't seem to understand what the boycott was about.. I didn't even understand what it was about or the full extent of people's rage (when I joined) .. I personaly simply thought there were too many issues only recently(or yet to be..) fixed when they announced it..
A friend had told me while we were playing L4D, "Hey you know they just announced a sequel? It's coming in the fall" and I was like "..WTF? Already? Just like that?" I don't mind paying $50 for a good game, but how could a game be good when its being released so soon? Did they start right after they finished the first one? How could they make anything good without learning everything to be learned from this one? I would have expected to hear "Hey, they've started working an sequel" and then I would have wet myself with excitement, and then bookmarked some news pages and signed up for email notification and all thatfun **** ...
But there in lies part the problem, huh? Did they even mention at some point there would be a sequel in the works? I didn't notice any.. all of a sudden there was a trailer, and "WTFs!!" all over the place. I didn't know all the now-absolutely-worthless-nonesense they'd spouted out in their interviews so long ago, that fans of the game had taken as holding water.. because why the **** else should they open their mouths?
Long story short... don't say one thing... then do something entirely different... people might notice.. they might not be happy.
I mean when I heard it it sounded to me like "Hey its the console age! Game quality doesn't matter anymore! people like zombies and we're just gonna spout out maps and make you pay for them like a full game ! "
Okay yeah, even I had to admit it.. yeah to really make it even better, it would have to be rebuilt, and then of course all this work costs money, and people need to be paid.. but **** say something first? Just don't expect people are going to eat whatever you tell them? I hope they know this now.. you have to respect the words you YOURSELF have said..
If you check the boycott page now, they have ceded that some bit, and that of course you couldn't stop the release of such a popular game.(btw the boycott group was made since back when they announced the sequel :/ .. just heard about it? ) Again, I only joined for my own reasons, I see they have exceeded my expectations on the game (though its still a shooter.)
The first L4D had great mix of enjoyable characters, moving, challenging, run and gun action(this game is a shooter, btw.. not a survival horror...some people don't know this..not even some socalled professionals..)I could never be sorry for paying $45 for it and playing the crap out of it since the demo.. I absolutely loved the game.. although by March I was a little bored (got a little ho-hum :/ ) but still not sorry for the fun I had playing the game. I was a little dissapointed though that there wasn't much of any survival aspect to the game (the game being challenging and consistently kicking your ass on expert doesn't really fit survival either, though kinda fun.. and frustrating after 10 tries..)
And of course I should be getting my copy of L4D 2 by tomorrow :/.. I wasn't at first.. I played the demo and I'd say it was a great game.. but its was still much of the same.. and while I would get it eventually I didn't want it then like I wanted Borderlands and to try out some other games.. ( I've been playing Mass Effect I got for $10 off Steam. its fun :D
But on the day of L4D2's release I started getting game invites from all the 'ol l4D buddes (many I hadn't heard from in quite some time :O ) till I was getting one every 15 mins (sometimes that was literal..) and they wouldn't remember the next day that I'd told them I didn't get it.. so I just started saying that "I don't have it .. yet.." So there.. they won either way..
And yeah we have to stay on their nuts about it to make sure they DON'T become like EA... we just got a little angry not like anyone got their knees broken or anything geez..
