Unfortunately for you, The 3ds will take actual money through a credit or debit card, instead of Nintendo point cards. Nintendo is also making a new type of card for the eshop, but instead of points it uses an actual money value, like an itunes card.
I'm still enjoying my ps3 and wii, so no, I'd like this gen to stick around a little bit longer. 2013 seems like a good time for the new generation to come out for me.
