It's the distances, and even then if someone would be able to break all the laws of nature known to man to design an engine to take them out in space in the speed of light(which can't be done by the way), what are the chances of us even having developed life here? Maybe the time of their real shining came 20 000 000 years ago? Then we'd miss each other.
