DVDs for March 18th

This is something I'm hoping to do every week, let's give it a try:

Enchanted: saw this earlier today, surprisingly enjoyable, I liked how Disney decided to make fun of themselves for the whole movie, highly recommendable.

Atonement: Caught this about two months ago at the theater. I liked this movie, but out of all the nominations for Best Picture this year I felt that it was truly the weakest. Also, the ending was quite depressing, I still highly recommend this film to anyone looking for a good love story. Another thing, when I watched this in the theater, I was the only one in there that was not either A. On a date or B. A woman.

The Seeker: I saw about 5 minutes of this film when I worked at the theater, laughably idiotic.

I Am Legend: This movie I have a somewhat double take in terms of my enjoyment. I really did like when Will Smith was talking to the manicans and to his dog, the feeling of desperation and longing for companionship was really engaging. Yet, when the film decided to put the mutants on screen, this is where I really started getting annoyed. The whole "alpha male" monster business is seriously annoying me, first in Land of the Dead and now I'm seeing it here. Plus, the main mutant had this pimp walk thing going on that bugged me. I have absolutely no idea how this film generated anywhere near as much money as it did, I understand Will Smith's popularity, but Jesus it made a lot. Check it out.

On another note, been playing tons of Brawl, unlocked all stages and characters and am now working on all the music. New job at Adventure Island water park, so I'm pleased with that. Also, go watch Horton Hears a Who! It's a pretty charming and enjoyable flick. Finally, there's a chance I'm going to be getting a new blog, as I would very much like to post some of my writings, but this blog doesn't necessarily feel appropriate for my writings.

Later.

Quick Oscar Predictions

The Oscars start in about an hour, and while I know some won't agree with my predictions, these are my picks for the best of the following categories:

Picture: No Country for Old Men

Actor: Daniel Day Lewis (There Will Be Blood)

Acress: Ellen Page (Juno)

Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men)

Supporting Actress: Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton)

Animated Feature: Ratatouille

Art Direction: Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Cinematography: There Will Be Blood

Costume Design: Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Directing: Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men)

Documentary: No End in Sight

Film Editing: There Will Be Blood

Foreign Language: The Counterfeiters

Makeup: La Vie En Rose

Original Score: Atonement

Original Song: Happy Working Song (Enchanted)

Sound Editing: There Will Be Blood

Sound Mixing: Transformers

Visual Effects: Transformers

Adapted Screenplay: No Country for Old Men

Original Screenplay: Juno

I didn't put down for my documentary/live action/animated shorts, but that's because I honestly know nothing about them. My prediction for Ellen Page is the one I'm mostly sure might not happen (well, Ruby Dee might take supporting), but considering Alan Arkin winning Best Supporting Actor last year, and Crash winning Best Picture the year before, this seems like a kind of curve ball the Oscars are bound to throw.

Chicken Scratch

I feel like writing.

Honestly, I don't know why I don't write in here more often. Job hunting continues, not as successful as I hope. I had an interview earlier today at the YMCA, and I went through the entire interview before she realized that the position I was applying for I had to be 21 to work. Great. Oh well, looks like supermarkets are next, as I've been applying to plenty of retail stores. Academically, I've lately been discovering how much I truly enjoy writing, as creative writing has now become my favorite class in school.

Guitar Hero Aerosmith is such an unbelievably idiotic idea, but plenty of people have proposed why, and in better form then I can. Burnout Paradise has been the game of choice lately, and while I've only put about 12 or 13 hours into it, I've lately been focusing more on smashes, billboards and jumps more then the race events. Fantastic game all around. Rock Band hasn't been getting played as aggressively lately, I've still been playing it a bit lately, although the cover of Ten Speed (of God's Blood and Burial) by Coheed & Cambria I do find lackluster in that the vocalist is just not up to par. I haven't really been playing much Mass Effect, but last weekend I popped it in, and my honest opinion is that the dialogue is truly what makes the game. The reason for why I haven't finished that game is that it just doesn't feel like an RPG to me, I keep thinking I'm playing a third person shooter with a crappy menu interface. Still, a good game nonetheless. Devil May Cry 4, No More Heroes, and Professor Layton are seriously calling to me, but my lack of income is preventing me from enjoying them for the time. Also, all the import impressions of Super Smash Bros. Brawl are getting me anxious.

American Gangster comes out on DVD tomorrow, and I'm pretty excited for it, as I never had the chance to watch it watch it at my old job, as the film's length and my schedule prevented it. Watched Gone Baby Gone the other night, pretty good, as early in the film I was under the impression it was just another film where all the characters think they're tough guy bad asses. Thank God it turned out better then that. Oscars are Sunday, but that's another post, but considering I've seen all the Best Picture nominations, I'm pretty confident in my predictions.

Listening to the new Ayreon album (01011001) right now, it's pretty solid, though I don't feel the love I had for The Human Equation.

This weekend will hopefully be great fun; Friday I'll probably call 2 of my best friends (James and Brian) and we will embark to the cinema to watch Be Kind Rewind. Saturday my friend Ashley is having a shindig in celebration of her birthday (which is actually Thursday), so therefore, High School Musical singing cards will be purchased. Then Sunday, the Oscars (my Super Bowl).

Until later.

Can't feel the force

Percent of me that cared about Soul Calibur IV earlier today: 5%

Percent of me that cares about Soul Calibur IV upon learning that Yoda and Darth Vader are playable characters: 4%

Honestly, placing two iconic film characters in your fighting game is not going to make it better. If Namco actually focuses on evolving the gameplay of the series, I'll be more than happy to play the game when it comes out, but the whole irrelevent guest fighters has me actually care less about this game

Anyway, I'm posting my three Top 10 Lists for 2007 tomorrow, I know I'm a little late to the party, but better late than never.

Closing Out the Year

As 2007 comes to an end I decided to post what I'm sure will be the last blog post of 2007.

Tonight is my last day at AMC Veterans 24 movie theater. I've been working there for almost two years, and I finally decided to move on due to the constant frustration, and the feeling that I need to just do my own thing. Problem is, I don't have a new job lined up yet, so job hunting will begin shortly, and since I turn 18 three weeks from today, new opportunities will hopefully open. I will genuinely miss my co-workers, considering most of them are truly great people that I'm glad to have had the chance to meet and work with. It's also flattering to be told how much you'll be missed, truth is, I get pretty energetic at work and I do sing a lot, and that's something that really only I do, but at the same time, it's also a little over exaggerated when people speak to you like you're dying.

Despite the fact that I caught a cold on Christmas, it was a pretty enjoyable day. Assassin's Creed, The Orange Box, Rob Zombie's Halloween, and Robert Rodgriguez's Planet Terror were my gifts, and also my parents got a Wii for the family, which I used a gift card to get Super Mario Galaxy, and I've actually had my Wii version of Twilight Princess for close to a year now (got it for a killer price, brand new).

So, with a few days (or weeks, I've got plenty of money saved up) of unemployed solitude, I've done a basic rundown of how my days might be going until I go back to school on January 8th: Wake up, play Rock Band, eat, listen to new Dillinger Escape Plan/Coheed and Cambria/Public Enemy/Symphony X/other albums and debate which was my favorite of 2007, play Rock Band, play Orange Box/Assassin's Creed/Super Mario Galaxy, read Chronicles of Narnia novels, play Rock Band, watch Metalocalypse/movie that I own but haven't actually watched all of, play Call of Duty 4 multiplayer if I can connect to Xbox Live, sleep. Rise. Repeat.

Yeah, this might be the most relaxing days I've experienced in a long time.

So yeah, New Year's Eve coming up, and apparently my plans are to go to Gator Wing House with one of my best friends, and a bunch of (soon to be ex) co-workers, where we will fill ourselves full of hot wings, and from there to some party where we will get very sloppy.

That's my outlook on 2007, and I decided to actually post my top lists of games, music, and moviesthis year, but I'm not going to do it until the first week of 2008, so until then, happy new year!

Can't Hardly Wait

Halo 3 will be released to the public in less than 8 hours.

I'm honestly not as excited for the game as many, and no where near as hyped as I was for Halo 2. Honestly, that game's story disappointed me so much, and the ending was just so atrocious.

It's not like I don't have any anticipation for the game, because I do, it's just that I haven't been to the point where I'm counting down the days for the release like I was for the second game. The review for the game didn't surprise me at all, as I'm sure many were expecting the game to receive a very high score. The reassuring statements in the review, are that the story is great, and that there seems to be quite an abundant amount of content in the game.

Truth be told, I'm more excited for Halo 3 as a conclusion than as a new chapter. Also, chances are this game will be in my 360 for quite a while, with the achievements, co-op, and multiplayer.

I'll be posting within the next few days about my opinion on the game, and hopefully I'll be able to finish the fight.

Back From Beyond

So yeah, I haven't posted in this in over a year. Wow.

Not much going on, still doing the same old thing.

Yet, I finally feel that I'm going to finally update this regularly.

Finished Bioshock and The Darkness over the last week. Bioshock was amazing (as everyone is saying). Probably going to play through it again soon to get another ending. The Darkness was very good as well, though I didn't like it as much as Riddick, and it was also quite short. Multiplayer will be checked out possibly later today. I started playing Final Fantasy XII again, and since I'm still playing Pokemon Pearl, I've got quite my fix on two great RPGs. Was in Best Buy yesterday and got Gunstar Super Heroes for $10, best deal I've gotten in a long time.

I think my writing starting to get boring and poorly constructed, so that does it for this entry. I will genuinely be posting regularly now.

Oh Snapcabbage!

So it's been a while since I updated this thing, might as well do it now when I have the time.

Things have been pretty crazy lately, so I figure now I'll talk about the topics that I haven't touched on since my previous post.

FIrst off, yesterday I bought a 360 with Oblivion. In all honesty, I'm really enjoying the system so far, downloading demos and videos and such, the interface and menu system looks great and is pretty easy to use. Oblivion has been pretty damn fun so far, I haven't played that much of it so far (only got out of the sewers onlocking the first achievemnt) but it's an exciting and fun game so far. I'm still unsure of how the point system works, and also I'm not sure if points that you earn in games or points that you buy are what you use to get Xbox Live Arcade games like Geometry Wars, Uno and Smash TV, if anyone can let me know I'd greatly appreciate it.

Musically, not to much has been going on. The albums of 2006 that have really got me to purchase them have probably just been Rebirth of A Nation by Public Enemy, Kill by Cannibal Corpse and 10,000 Days by Tool. I'm still eagerly awaiting new albums like Blind Guardian's A Twist In the Myth. Even though the music seems to down now, it'll pick back up soon enough, and there are still a ton of albums I haven't gotten around to listening to yet.

In terms of reading and books, the only book I've fallen in love with lately has been The Alphabet of Manliness by Maddox. It's hilarious so far, and definety worth check out if you enjoy his writings. I need to catch up on my reading with that, as I'm only on F (which is for Female Wrestling).

Considering the fact that I work at a movie theater, it may be strange that I've only sat down and watched 3 whole movies. Here's the quick rundown on them all:

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift: Going into this movie I was expecting only the following: sweet racing and drifting sequences, hot chicks and mindless action, and hot damn I got all three. The acting may be garbage for the most part, but this film was actually quite a fun ride, and in my opinion is the best installment in the series. Don't go into expecting an oscar winner, or top notch acting, but do go into expecting a fun, if mindless summer flick. Rating: C+

Nacho Libre: Going into this movie I had pretty high hopes, as any movie with Jack Black usually rocks my ass off, I found myself quite disappointed. The film was just littered with fart jokes and an over all feeling that Nickelodean stripped the film down so it would be more appealing to kids. Sure the singing sequences were funny, but even those felt a little out of place. Nacho's sidekick helps get some laughs, and the two are pretty funny as a team. Considering the fact that I hated Napolean Dynamite, and since the two are both down similarly stylistically, maybe that's another reason I didn't like it so much. All in all, amusing, but definitely a let down. Rating: D+

X-Men: The Last Stand: Boy oh boy, even though Nacho Libre disappointed me, I don't think anything would have made me think I'd be this disappointed in an X-Men installment. I absolutely loved the first two films, and I believe Bryan Singer did a great job directing those films, and that's one major reason I believe this film sucked. Sure it's got the characters, Beast, Juggarnaut, Angel, Phoenix and lots and lots of guys on the Brotherhood, but most of the characters are underused. Straying far from the comic and *spoiler?* killing off major characters, and even getting knowledge from the comic wrong (Juggarnauts not a mutant, gets his power from mystical relic). Even characters like Collosus pissed me off, in the fact that his look made him look liquidy and like the TX from Terminator 2, as to made of fragments and blue like he's suppose to look. With all that said, the film does have it's highlights, Beast is probably the most well down character they've down in all 3 of the films, as he's practically right out of the comic, and the action, fighting and effects are all spectacular. Yet, this is probably the most heart wrenchingly painful disappointment I've felt over a movie in a long, long time. Rating: C-

So there you have it, books, games, music and movies, all the things that I've been getting over the last few months, and yeah, hopefully I'll be updating this more frequently. Now off to earn some points, if I figure out how to

What do Opeth and The Hulk have in common?

Tuesday I was able to get two awesome things.

First I stopped by Best Buy and picked up the new Opeth album "Ghost Reveries." What can I say, it' s awesome, and it's in my opinion one of the better albums of the year, though I'm still not sure which album has been the best.

Then I headed over to Circuit City where The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was on sale, and that game is really awesome. It's really satisfying to just break everything you see in the game.

So, what do Opeth and The Hulk have in common? Their newest releases are totally awesome, and you should check them out.

Lads, grasshoppers and snakes

Boy has it been an event full week. Also, the week has had it's ups and downs. Quite frankly, it ended well.

First off, Monday was Gigantour, and I was sorely disappointed that I couldn't go, considering how I wanted to see Dreamtheater, Nevermore and Symphony X. Yet I figure I might as well not get to down, more tours will come, and I will be ready. I'm glad that my friends that went had a good time, and i've been hearing good reviews from the show, but I'm not gonna mope about not going, I have to move on. Also, two concerts in September (one with Pocupine Tree) should be pretty fun and worthwhile, and they're both cheap.

The other day I finally went to Best Buy and got the album Alien by Strapping Young Lad. I've been meaning to get it for a while instead of just letting it be on my harddrive. Hopefully the next album to my collection will be Blackwater Park, or Hatebreeder, since those are the ones I've been meaning to get the most. It's still an awesome album, and I definitely recommend it.

Today was quite a day for many things; bugs, storms and games.

The day started normal, and I went through all my classes roughly the same, with the exception of the extremely corny drinking and driving videos in driver's ed. During lunch we realized that a grasshopper had been stepped on, so people pitched in and gave me like $15 to eat it. So I did. I can't help but feel extremely pathetic when I do this, even though I am. It wasn't that bad, and I got my money, but I do know their was probably more money involved, just I dunno who has it. I think I'm going to stop doing stupid crap for money; I always feel like I'm being ripped off (probably cause I am) and I just feel like I will get myself sick, but dammit, there's a lot of crap I need to get, and since I'm unemployed I need cash.

Of course this money came in handy later, as I ventured to my local Rhino Games store, I was looking for two specific titles. Of course when they didn't have Burnout 3 in stock, I figured I'd move onto Metal Gear Solid 3, and sure enough I found it. While I was in the store I noticed that they were still carrying copies of San Andreas, and when I brought it up to one of the guys that worked there we got into a pretty cool conversation raning from why they had it, to our opinions, to what schools we each went to. His name was Victor, and he was a pretty cool dude, this guy was just another reason why I think that Rhino has a lot better service then my local EB Games. So then I got my copy of MGS3 for $20, and since when it first came out I rented, and almost beat it, I'm hoping to beat the game this weekend. *prays I do so*

So, out of the week I got a CD, a game, and an insect in my stomach. Would I take it back...well, I don't believe in taking back actions, so, maybe. I think the perfect way to end this would be in the immortal words of Leeroy Jankins: Allright, let's do this; LEEROY JANKINS.

End.
