Go buy this game! Afro Samurai is awesome. The music is amazing. The combat is slick and fun, but does get a little rough since you can get hit from the side or behind and it messes up your combo. Stay light and quick and keep moving and you'll be fine.
The graphics are also very, very well done! Lots of attention has been given to the game world. As stated in the reviews, the platforming sections are just terrible. Most due to the unresponsiveness of some of the contextual actions. Sometimes when I try to jump to a higher area, Afro doesn't always grab the ledge. This results in having to try several times. Same with wall running, you need to be in the right spot and the right time or you'll just fall.
The cool thing about how the deaths are handled in Afro Samurai is that the screen just fades to black and you start, about 2 seconds later, about 10 feet from where you made your mistake. Definitely cuts some of the tedium from miscalculated jumps and wall runs.
Back to the combat. The focus attacks are in a word, amazing. Being able to slow down the game world and pick where you want to slice on the enemies body is incredible fun! It shows you a white line on your foe when you hold either the light attack button (X) or the strong attack button (Y). You can also mix things up with kicks (B). The combo system is rather limited, but still incredible fun. It has a slight "button masher" feel to it at times, but then you'll get flashes of DMC/NG brilliance. Being able to slice or deflect incoming sniper bullets is also fun and frustrating, since it requires a lot practice and impecable timing.
All in all it's a great game! A welcome addition to any 360 owners library.
