Now aside from your comparisons of the Vita to modern cell phones, you speak as if the Vita is garbage because of its interface and functionality. The 3DS, DS and PSP all have the same issues you mention in your article and they've all done just fine without crashing and burning (including 3DS even though it had a rocky start). The 3DS has no multi-tasking capabilites, it has a very sluggish interface that takes a moment to even start loading what you select, turning it on has a similar delay to the Vita, it asks you to confirm before opening most menus, and the list goes on. This is not to mention the 3DS' awkward shape for extended periods of gaming and the lack of dual sticks (the Circle Pad Pro mostly remedies this but it still doesn't function as well as a dedicated second analog stick and costs an extra $20). This is not to say 3DS is a bad system, because its not. I love my 3DS just as much as I'm sure I will love the Vita when it releases stateside. The point remains, the Vita is not the terrible machine you make it out to be, Mr. Walton. I believe it can definitely stand on it's own against the 3DS, with the only potential damning factor is the price. People need to stop comparing dedicated handhelds to smart phones, both have their own pros and cons, but the fact remains they have separate markets.
If I didn't know better, I'd think Mark Walton works for Apple. First of all, it is utter stupidity to compare the Vita (or the 3DS for that matter) to an iPhone or Android device. They are entirely different products with entirely different consumer bases. Nowadays it is all talk about how this handheld will stack up against the latest iPhone or how that handheld will possibly beat the newest Android. This is idiocy. While I grant that cell phones have carved quite a niche in the gaming market in today's world, they've largely brought new individuals to the casual gaming scene, not taking gamers away from dedicated gaming devices. Comparing the two is like comparing apples and rhinoceros. Complaining that a high quality game like Uncharted is selling for $50 while Angry Birds is $1 is ludicrous. Just because you can get PSN minis from the Playstation Store for $4 doesn't mean you should expect to get a full fledged game like Uncharted 3 for the same price. This is essentially what you're saying.
