To be honest its the perfect time to get one. If you had bought one upon release you would have only had 2 or 3 games for it, but now you'll have a decent amount alreayd released, and more to come this year.
Poor sales has little to do with demographics and more to do with no advertising. Zak and Wiki for example, looks like many other rubbish third party efforts on the Wii shelf. Its a great game, butdevelopers have to tell people about it. Thats the big thing the 360 and PS3 do well, is market their games with ace adverts that make you want to buy the games. What does the Wii get? Ant and Dec trumpeting casual game experiences for the whole family again. They do nothing for the image of the console amongst hardcore gamers, and they simply draw attention to titles most people are already aware of.
Annoyingly, we have good games. Silent Hill, Tatsunoku vs Capcom, Muramasa and more on their way Metroid, Red Steel 2, Sin and Punishent 2 and No more heroes 2. These games would be part of a perfect "Wii is for everyone" advertising campaign. Instead I can see very little changing. Nintendo have made good on their promise, to bring more games to the Wii for their core fans, unfortunately, unless you own a Wii and use sites like this, you wont know about it.
It seems a lot of complaints are from people who haven't actually played DS:E, and think that it being turned into a light gun game is some sort of compromise. Well you only have to look at its score to see that isn't the case. Its a very good game in its own right. Yes they could have mimicked the 360/PS3 editions, but what would have been the point in that? Then -like with Dead Rising- the game really would have been an inferior version, and would have sold poorly anyway. At least with Extraction, the storyline is different, it plays differently, there are 4 difficulty setting and other bonus' to aim for, AND it looks great. Easily one of the best Wii games around.
As for the sales, well if you don't advertise something, then it wont sell. And many people have the wrong opinion of the game, which is ironic because had Extraction been done on the 360 as well, it would have went down a treat.
Ive said this elsewhere too, but Wii games DONT sell in great numbersupon release, almost none of them do. The same "this game bombed" comments were made for everything from No More Heroes to Umbrella Chronicles to Mario Galaxy. But the sales remained steady, and when they drop in price the sales improve. As a result we have sequels on the way for all 3 games, yet they were all dubbed flops within the first week. Just too many people too eager to give the Wii a kicking.
So, just relax, its just the way things are. The 360 do these great GTA adverts that -like a movie- make you want to run out and experience it. The Wii doesn't, its more of a, wander into store and buy it on a whim kind of thing.
To those who wont buy Dead Space because they think its a cheap knock off, it really is your loss. It is not meant to be the same game- like Halo Wars- its a spin off, and nobody complained because that was different. You should be happy that you have something different to play and they built a game from the ground up purely for the Wii, rather than port aversion that would have always appeared sub par. If you still have that opinion on DS:E though, then thats down to your own ignorance. The scores don't lie.
