FFXIsAstyanax Blog

I was asked to write a little about me here, so here goes.

I have been a gamer but for the first two years of my life.

My first memorable gaming experience was Deja Vu on the family Macintosh 128k. I think I was about 3 or 4.

Before age 5, I had beat (or finished every level of) over a dozen video games.

I bought my own SNES when it was released in the US (I think I was about 5 or 6 then, completely broke after that).

I completed Super Mario World 100% 3 days after I bought my SNES.

I have owned primarily Nintendo systems because of the first party games.

My console and handheld collection includes: ColecoVision, NES, SNES, N64, Playstation, GCN, PS2, Wii, GameBoy, GBC, GBA, GBA:SP, NDS.

In 4th grade, I learned of and wrote games with the ZZT gaming utility.

None of my games were released, but I still have the floppies to which the games were backed up.

I write my own PC games in Java and C++.

I am now a Computer Science student in my junior year. When I begin my career, I hope to enter the gaming industry.

More programming fun

Working with text-based games is fun and all, but designing your own game with a GUI is fantastic. When it finally all comes together, it's an uplifting feeling few can match. And though this last game was only a month-and-a-half project, I picked up my first competition win and some recognition. I've only been coding in Java for 5 months, and already I've got a few low-key titles under my belt. I can't wait for next semester, when a group of three or four of us will team up to write our own indie PC games from scratch.
