You must remember that critics etc, are very conservative, and new mediums usually go against their beliefs. Examples include art-movements that disgusted audiences and critics alike. The transition from realistic panting during the Renaissance to relaxed, expressionist painting bore much criticism. Critics saw them as rushed, juvenile and scientifically/technically appalling. We now see today, art that consists of merely blobs and random strokes. This in the middle ages would have been a crime. Whilst it may seem normal now, the feelings those critics once had can be observed today. One art exhibition depicted a starving, dying dog, which caused outrage from everyone. How could anyone call that art? Maybe in one hundred years he will be renowned for challenging convention, in this case, animal rights. As stated in another comment, when film arose, this same debate was waged. But now it's the norm. Does story have to be like a Shakespeare, and do they have to follow a linear structure? Game story telling doesn't have to follow any rules at all. It's allowed to challenge traditional (the critics) beliefs. Some of the ways story is presented in video games might challenge some of your beliefs of what's a good storytelling medium. Video game storytelling will become the norm and it will no longer be criticized. Then another method will arise that challenges video games, and that will be criticized until it becomes the norm etc. Its a cycle that's been going on for millennia.
haha, Hanass, I like how you say all the Mac owning trolls saying how crap pc's are, yet you start bagging out Macs. However, people falsely stating statistics and functionalities and those morons who go on about how awesome their platform is without stating a reason is really annoying. Mac doesn't have right click! PC always breaks! Those sort of things annoy me, either because their wrong, or they just don't prove anything other than their own ignorance.
Oh and btw, who honestly believes macs only have one mouse button, you've never seen one have you? Of course they have a right click lol! Though it is stupid that out of the box it isn't automatically set. Luckily it's as simple as going to system preferences > mouse > enable right click.
Erm, SDSkarface, I wouldn't buy a Mac because of games, for one they don't have many titles. People buy macs because of the OS, it's stability, ease of use and all the other blah blah. It depends what you are debating. Because Macs have great editing software and Mac pro's are excellent for that stuff. Gaming? Well Macs don't really get any, so Windows has to be your winner, no matter what.
How funny, all the problems windows have are always with the basic stuff. All the warning pop ups and other crap. My friends new computer got issues within a few weeks. Hopefully 7 will be what they say it is, They can't play catchup forever. Anywho, I'll be on my mac forever probably. Not good for games (only ea games are doin it atm I think) but that's what I have my consoles for.
