Star Spotting
I went to Stratford-Upon-Avon on Monday. I've been meaning to head up there for a while and do the whole tourist thing - checking out Shakespeare's birthplace and the like, but what really sold me on going now is the fact that I knew David Tennant was in town. He's just started rehearsing for the RSC production of Hamlet. Not that I actually expected to see him, but you never know. . . . .
What should happen not 5 mins after I arrived when I saw . . . . no, not David . . . . but . . . . . Patrick Stewart! - he's in the same production of Hamlet. Not quite as exciting as running into David in a coffee shop, but I am a ST:TNG fan from way back so it was still rather exciting. I didn't get a photo though. He was having coffee or lunch with a few other people and I think it's kinda rude invading their personal time like that, but I was thrilled - even if I have no proof.
After wandering around town for a few hours, taking in the sights and visiting the landmarks without any DT sighting I headed back home. But I am determined to return when the play is showing. How fantastic to see DT and PS together in Hamlet!
Re-makes
I watched the preview of the US version of Life on Mars and all I can say is it just felt wrong. The only way I could make myself feel better was to re-watching the Series 1 DVDs.
I don't know how it is going to fare in the US but I really can't see it working. Part of it's appeal is it's unique Britishness. I just can't see it translating to the US setting. (Plus they don't have John Simm so they are already at a disadvantage!)
I am concerned about what they will be changing, but the irony is, if they simply re-made it I would be one of the first to ask why on earth they bothered at all.
Another show I have massive doubts about is the US version of Kath & Kim. I mean, how can you replace these foxy ladies:
with the likes of Selma Blair and Molly Shannon?
Moffat is Still the King!
Fresh on the heels of the sqeeeful news that Steven Moffat is to become the Doctor Who showrunner for the series starting 2010, we have a wonderful Moffat-penned double episode on Who. The first part aired on Saturday and, for me, it lived up to the high expectations I had of it. Silence in the Library is the best episode so far for this season. Fingers crossed that the second part lives up to the standard that has been set.
And Finally . . .
I leave you with one final picture of David to enjoy at your leisure.
