DOOM: Will They Stop At Alien Shooting?

DOOM. The last thing we remember about this word, or game, is it's great unveiling back in 2003. Everybody hippie-yay-ed the game and it's ::stunning:: graphics. But then, Gears of War came out... Unreal 3 came out... and Gears 2, Dead Space, Silent Hil:Homecoming, Resident Evil 5, Kane & Lynch, Mercenaries and InFamous all came out. And what do we remember from the good old days? old-ass alien shooting with crappy visuals and dotted pixels.

The original DOOM game was a great, if not the biggest, fps hit back in 1994. You are an unstoppable killing machine, ripping demons limb by limb and blowing holes through Hell's minions to save Earth and Mankind from an alien invasion. The locations and settings were really good, and weapons were satisfying, too. But hey, now we got Dead Space, Gears of War, Left 4 Dead, and Resident Evil.

I'm a huge fan of the DOOM series, and what a pity, it's getting crushed by all those games coming out.Id took 4 years to make Doom 3, and now, developers release way nicer games in just 2 years!! well one can still wonder: why won't Id use this technology to keep up with DOOM?

Plus, Id kind of messed DOOM a little bit up with DOOM 3. It was really, really a lot like Half-Life and Quacke. Whereas the original DOOM focused on independence, non-stop frenzy, totally strange and ideal locations, and the only burden on your shoulders was the door keys (and they were way well guarded). But with DOOM 3, you had: countless computer databases, a PDA that kept reminding you of annoying things, secret access codes, locked closets and safes that HAD to be opened, the power outage issue, and the sugar topping, one guy controlling it all to destroy mankind. Really, that's not the DOOM atmosphere anymore, just analien screw-them-all shooting game with a nice boss ass that felt totally out of place. In DOOM, theCyberdemon and the Spider Mastermind really gave a feel of horde leaders. But the giant-ass in DOOM 3 felttotally out of place, like, a grandpa thingy that wantedhis offspring to feed on fresh flesh. And you can't screw grandpa's ass unless you use a SPECIAL WEAPON, specially "designed" to kill the boss. Annoying, isn't it?

I'm still playing DOOM these days. Oh yeah, DOOM 2: Hell On Earth, DOOM2: TNT Evilution,DOOM 2: The Plutonia Experiment and The Ultimate DOOM. Can't forget these. Even though I currently ownGears, Gears 2, Dead Space, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, UnrealTournament 3, Alone in the Dark, Mass Effect, Resi 4, Silent Hill 4 and others, I still can't stop playing DOOM. And I'm looking forward to grabbing FallOut 3, Dragon Age:Origins, Resi 5,Lost Planet 2, TES 5, and others.

Pistol?every cop owns one. Shotgun? my neighbor got one.Chaingun? every warplane has one. Rocket launcher? guerillas own it. Plasma gun? it's included in nearly every sci-fi game. BFG? like anygood heavy puncher. Chainsaw?workers got many.Hell and demons? almost out of surprises and frightening creatures.

Well where does one draw the line between DOOM and today's shooting games?

I'll leave the guess for you! ;P
