I honestly was shocked at what horrible ratings AVP received from GameSpot, it makes me wonder if the person who wrote the review is even played the original games. Now let me start off by saying my favorite out of the original two was the second one by monolith. I really enjoyed the Multiplayer it actually kept me entertained throughout Jr High and I really didn't play much of anything else. I am a fan of the comics and Alien/Predator franchise but let us not speak of AVP Movies, those have no place in a real Alien/Predator fans collection.
I've only played through the Predator and Marine campaign but I have to say they are very well done. I will write about the Alien Campaign when I play through it.
The Marine campaign is very fast paced and heart stopping! It kind of reminds your typical FPS. I loved how the Aliens can hide in the environment, it makes you keep your eyes peeled for anything that's out of place or you'll get sneaked up on later and you may end up regretting it. This campaign really reminded me of James Cameron's ALIENS.
The Predator Campaign was a little more difficult. You really need to be aware of what's going on around you because a lot more Xenomorphs attack you at once than in the Marine Campaign. You also have use of the Yautja's ( AKA Predator ) camouflage abilities which makes sneaking around very exhilarating. The weapons are very fun to play with as well.
The Multiplayer is fast paced and fun. I'll write more about it when I've played more
I feel Rebellion could have done a bit of a better job with the controls but changing the sensitivity in the options should fix that up. If GameSpot's critics had any sense they would have mentioned that and not played on default settings and not cried about it.
The Graphics where well done and quite an upgrade from the original games, I really enjoyed seeing it in HD on my TV. The game play was very well done and new, it gave you more of a feel of what the fictional characters are capable of.
All in all, no this isn't Call of Duty or Halo. It probably doesn't compare to them in quality. But if people can take a look past those games and not compare AVP to them and look at them from a fans perspective then I feel that people can really enjoy it. I love the original games and I love this game. I purchased the Hunter Edition for $99.99 and it was worth every penny. A lot of people who are not familiar with AVP or even the games may or may not like it I can't really say. But I know speaking as a fan, you will love it. I
