I hadda write a short story for my english class, and it actually turned out pretty well. So i figured Id post it here for others to read. Enjoy.
Full Blown Chaos
I made it to the city around Friday afternoon. I had gone to see a concert that was
in town. It was around mid November, so it was getting to be pretty cold. I was wearing
my black leather jacket cause of it.
My friends and I had parked in front of the building where the show was to take
place. I still had like six hours to wait, but I was still pretty pumped. We decided to
wander around town for a little while. We were walkin down a street full of stores and
restaurants. We were headed for the bar when we passed by this record store. I told my
friends I would catch up to them and head in here, to see if there were any gems among
the junk...That was the last time I ever saw any of them.
I was in the store looking for Iron Maiden records. Eventually I got bored and
took the couple of worthwhile cds I had found up to the counter. As the guy at the
counter ran through the disks and added up the total, the song on the radio cut off and the
whole town went darker. It was only like dusk at the time, but still dark enough to cause a
panic. I left the cds behind and ran outside to see what was going on.
I ran outside to see that there was already an uproar starting. I ran back to my car
as fast as I could and turned on the radio. I must have run into like thirty people on the
way. People were all running every which way. They had already started looting. "This is
what millions of years of evolution have bought us?" I asked myself, "as soon as disaster
strikes, we all turn on each other?"
Luckily my car hadn't been broken into. I jumped in as fast as I could and turned
on the radio. "The power plant has exploded, leaving no power for the city of-" it cut off.
I swung my head around to find out why. I looked and my hood was open. I was so
focused on the radio report that I hadn't noticed someone had somehow gotten under the
hood of my car, and for some reason, stole my car battery. I jumped out of my car. I had
to find shelter.
I had even myself thought of doing a little looting myself. It sounded fun. But as I
ran I looked around and decided not. This wasn't a riot anymore. This was full blown
chaos.
I kept running a few blocks. I remembered that there was a motel down a few
blocks. I could barricade in there until this blew over. I kept running, set on my target of
the motel. A thought ran through my mind of my friends. How were they holding up?
I stopped in disbelief. I saw in a dark alley...a man, probably around the age of
thirty, had a girl around my own age cornered next to a dumpster. He was demanding she
give him her money, even though she insisted she had none. He started to advance on her
and she started to scream. I looked around in disgust as her screams were ignored by the
looters.
I ran and jumped on the guys back, wrapping my arms around his neck. He was
much bigger than I thought when I planned the attack. My feet didn't even touch the
ground when I was holding him. They just flailed around as he spun around trying to pry
my arms off of him. He swung his knife around behind his shoulder, trying to hit me. He
slashed my right eye while trying to hit me. I screamed in pain, grabbed my eye, and fell
to my knees. I looked up with my remaining eye to see his huge figure looming over me.
I thought I was done. But I saw some small slender arms grab him from behind the way I
had, and he reacted the same way. I then did something I had hoped I wouldn't have to
do. I reached in my inside pocket, grabbed the hunting knife inside, flipped it open,
charged and stabbed him right in the stomach. He fell to the ground without making a
sound except for the thud when he hit. I stood over his body feeling regret for having to
take such action.
The girl walked up to me slowly. "Oh my god! Are you okay? You're bleeding
really bad."
"It won't kill me," I answered," It just hurt a lot." I grinned and laughed.
"Well, you have to patch it up at least," she said, "It could get infected and you
could lose the eye."
"He cut me pretty deep. I won't be using it again no matter what we do." I took
my sunglasses out of my other inside pocket and put them on to hide the wound. I was
quite surprised they weren't broken. "C'mon. If we stay here, more guys like him may
show up. I know a place that should be safe...I hope."
I looked down at the lifeless corpse one last time. I felt like I was gonna throw up.
But I did my best not to so she wouldn't get all freaked out and worry about me again.
We had broken into a vacant motel room. It was actually hard to find one. A lot of
people must have had the same idea as me, cause when I tried to get into a bunch, there
were screams and threats towards me. A couple of people even shot at me. I was really
scared we were gonna be stuck outside in this anarchy. In fact, I was just scared in
general long ago, but I tried to not let it show. I didn't need to make her any more
frightened than she already was. If I got scared, it would only make her worry about me.
When we finally got in a room, we barricaded the door with the fridge, and we sat
behind the table in case we were shot at. Of course we were kinda done if anyone did
come in with a gun anyway. My knife wouldn't be much match for it.
We were there waiting for the chaos to end all night. It didn't. I was up all night,
keeping a close hand on my blade. She fell asleep around like two. I was glad she could
sleep. I felt I had no choice but to stay awake. My eye hurt too bad to let me sleep
anyway.
I sat there for hours. Then around sunrise, a Molotov broke threw the window and
exploded right next to me. Luckily, I covered my face, and her, in time.
"Wake up! NOW!" I screamed loud enough to wake up a whole neighborhood. It
didn't matter anyway. She was already up from the sound of the breaking glass.
I picked her up and jumped out the window using what I can only call pure
adrenaline. I set her down on here feet as fast as I could. I started to spin around, trying to
get my flaming jacket off. I hadn't even realized it was on fire until that very moment. I
finally managed to get it off and threw it halfway across the parking lot.
Then I saw it. She was laying motionless on the ground, with a shadow standing
over her. I saw they had a weapon, though I couldn't tell what. I couldn't even tell if they
were a man or woman, because they were standing right in front of the sunrise. I charged
and screamed and swung my knife. I couldn't have stopped myself if I wanted to...and I
didn't want to anyway. Blood squirted from their throat, and they fell to the ground, next
to her. I didn't fell any regret this time.
As I stood there, looking down at the two lifeless corpses. Suddenly I felt a sharp
pain in my back. I had been stabbed...or shot. I couldn't really tell. I fell to the ground,
next to the other two bodies. I looked over toward her face. Everything went red, then
black, then for the first time in two days...quiet.
