Does anybody know if i send my ps3 to a 3rd party repair place and they can't fix, will sony still replace my ps3. Its already out of its warranty, i'm just worried that they wouldn't fix it if its already been taken apart.

The problem is overheating and its a problem with the consoles motherboard, mainly the CPU. There's a tutorial on youtube on how to fix it yourself but alas it is only temporary. I recommend buying a new console altogether and selling yours for spare parts because the likely hood is it will break down again sooner or later.Keir21I don't want one of the sh!&&y new ps3's. I love my backwards compatability, 4 usb ports, chrome trim, and memory card slots. Mostly the backwards compatability, I gotta kid and he plays the 40 some odd ps2 games i have all the time.
[QUOTE="budboarder"][QUOTE="gagit811"]you can try asking to talk to a manager, if that doesn't work keep working your way up. talk calmly and explain how much of a sony fan you are, also state you are out of a job and $150 is a lot for you to come up with. It works they can offer a one time half price free or fix it for free. this is no guarantee but I did this when my blue-ray went out.gagit811Wow, you must be some haggler. I just know how to talk to them to get what I want. I will say they probably didn't like my call. Oh they will have you on hold for some time just have patience. I have experiance with smooth talking people and killing em with kindness from cust service and sales jobs. i'm just not sure where to start with them. I might just start crying on the phone with em and see what happens, cause i honestly almost want to. I was thinking about kinda getting mad and than asking for a manager and say how much i love my ps3 but I think i might go buy an new Xbox for $199 or however much those things cost.
I got the YLOD, and it won't turn back on. I'm looking at this PSR website that is advertising here on gamespot. $109 for a fix. Wonder if they're any good though. This sounds like YLOD to me and updating game from PSN will never 'brick" your PS3 unless system forced shutdown. You will need to kow whats the reason for YLOD...which could be a HDD failure but most YLOD is the MOBO problem.

So my system bricked a few hours ago. I was in the middle of a game of motorstorm pacific rim and all of a sudden the system turned off. When I try turning it back on the light turns yellow than flashs red. I spoke with Sony and they said my only option is to send it and pay $150 for them to fix it.
I've got two questions:
Does anybody know of anyway Ican get out of paying the $150?? I've been unemployed for a few months and job prospects still aren't looking good, so paying $150 isn't an easy choice. I think i'm past my warranty, how long is it????? This is my second ps3, the first one I bought had a laser error of somekind and they replaced it for free cause i was still within the warranty.. I was thinking I could try to work some angle involving that they sent me a defective refurb. Any suggestions, or has anybody heard of a way to get em to cover the cost??
I pretty much know the answer to this questions. Is there any way for me to get my saved game from my hard drive? I know i can't take the harddrive out and put it in another ps3 cause the harddrive is "married" to my ps3. Can I use a linux computer or something to pull the data off? (don't just tell me i should have backedup my saves)
Well my intial question is the most important, so any help would be greatly appeciated. I am so bummed right now...
p.s. before i started playing motor storm , i started downloading a patch for it but at 32% it timed out and gave me some error, the system didn't restart or freeze. So i just started the game again, it didn't ask me to download the patch again though. You think that caused my system to crash????
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I gotta ask anyways.
Do you have to be logged into your PSN account to earn a trophy. Example: For some reason or another my ps3 has been logging me out of PSN. All I have to do is sign in again and its fine, but sometimes when I'm in the middle of a game (lets say Motorstorm 2) i don't do this automatically. So if I meet the requirement of a trophy and I'm not logged into my account, do I not get it?
