Fenian_lostsoul Blog

Recent games I got.

So I haven't make an actual blog in a long time, and not long ago got a bunch of games so I thought I would make a post about what I recently bought. As you can see I've branched out of my regular slew of ps3 titles, and got more Nintendo stuff this time around.

Bioshock 2
I played the original Bioshock on PC and loved it to bits, it was a masterpiece, regarding the sequel I keep hearing mixed reactions so I figured I would get it to personally see what is all about, specially since I found it cheap.

Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne:
Been wanting to get into the SMT series for a while now and Nocturne which is it's own story always seemed like the best place to start, the fact that Dante from Devil May Cry is in it doesn't hurt either.

Metroid Prime
Apparently a must-own for anyone with a gamecube or wii, the graphics are very nice but I haven't had much time to get into it.

Metroid Prime Hunters
I have been looking for this particular game for a looong time and believe me when I found it, I was all kinds of happy :P, the title didn't disappoint, with solid controls and great graphics it is one of my favorite games on the DS.

Castlevania Dawn of Sorrows and Portrait of Ruin
I love the last Castlevania series but only played one(Order of Eclessia) of the three Castlevania titles on the DS, it was lucky for me then that the store had both the other two titles I wanted for cheap. I started with Dawn of Sorrow and while I'm liking it, I find the touch screen features very gimmicky and the bosses rather easy.

Pokemon SoulSilver

It's Pokemon.

PSN has let me down.

First and Foremost sorry about the royal b*tch*ng you are about to read in this blog post.

I didnt notice it before, because then, when I played with friends online(which wasnt as often as it is now) it was only one game or the other maybe, we didn't stay chatting that much. Like with Cronaroth we played like twice a month(and I dont blame him, PSN kinda sucks), but currently I have more friends that own a ps3, like my pal Xuba, that dude is a gaming machine we play online Resident Evil Co-op, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, LBP, etc and we will both get KZ3, LBP2, Dead Space 2 all with multiplayer.

What Im trying to say is that the freaking lack of cross-game chat, HELL, of a better online infrastructure really hurts the gaming experience for us PSN users. If the Plus program for PSN is the thing that will bring necessary stuff like cross-game chat I would be willing to pay the fee for that alone, but even say feature is not confirmed. I mean come on Sony, here you have me PlayStation fanboy Numero Uno(Symon is Numero Dos), ranting about your freaking online service, it is THAT BAD.

Ps. If you are gonna tell me to buy a 360 go drown in a river(JK), I will buy one eventually if I feel like it. Also I beat Killzone 2 campaign recently and my birthday was June 12th :P

Entering the Dragon Age

Simple as that, just got Dragon Age Origins, and is every bit as good as everyone says it is. The story is superb, one of the most inmersive experience of this gen, and finally a good WRPG(aside from Oblivion) to play on my PS3, thx to Symon and Tess who more or less convinced me to get it, it's truly an amazing title.

Finally Beat It

After more than a 100 hours and a lot of powerleveling I finally beat FF III, I had make myself a promise that I wouldn't buy another FF title for the DS until I beat II, and now after more than a year I've finally finished the game, the last part had a faster pace and was much more enjoyable though hard in the old school JRPG fashion. Now I will put my effort into a more enjoyable and modern FF title, XII which is along with IX so far one of my favorite titles of the franchise.

New Final Fantasy Scans and LvL30 :P

From the Latest Famitsu, damn I really like the design, not entirely sure but looks it could be the same artist from the original FF Tactics. Click for full size

Finally got to lvl 30, wicked sick(yeah that's me in an nutshell). Also started playing the latest DS Castlevania game, Order of Ecclesia, is awesome and while I'm not sure about the other Castlevania DS games, compared to the GBA Castlevania titles the bosses in this one are actually hard.

Silent Hill Remake: A game of hide and seek?

I have some recent concers regarding the Silent Hill remake, Shattered Memories, mostly due to the "hands-on" article that GS posted during this E3:

Silent Hill SM Hands-On

While I'm not against the concept of a reboot of the original game, not entirely at least, I am somewhat worried about this particular statement present in the article:

"Walls of ice shoot out of the ground! You can't climb over them (they're cold!) so you must find a way around. Easy enough, right? It's not so easy when a horde of undead creatures is chasing you. There isn't any combat in Shattered Memories, so you have to run like heck whenever you see an evil being. This set off an elaborate chase sequence in which we crashed through doors, quickly scaled walls, and knocked down bookcases to slow our pursuers, all in the scant hope that we would survive."

Sure we(and by we I mean horror genre fans as myself) have all whine and trash about how the horror survival genre is a dying breed, partly due to the lack of "horror" in recent RE titles(don't get me wrong I love the last 2 main titles I really do) and the overall focus on combat in both RE and and the latest SH games(Origins and Homecoming), but a game that solely relies on hiding, seeking and what sounds like platforming(wtf) would be an overkill imho, combat has never been the focus of the SH franchise(aside from the games mentioned above) but it dos play a part in what makes the game compelling, I'm not entirely sure if this is the right direction for the franchise, but I really hope I'll be eventually proved wrong.
