...which burrow to take over! lol.
See, it all started a couple weeks ago when my dog came into my room the morning to sleep with me, as he always does every mornings, but this time around, he started whining after my Stormy Storm waking me up at 6AM. Usually he doesn't do this, but I guess he caught her in action while she was having a random walk around the tank.
Starting that day, Storm abandonned her old burrow situated in the back-right corner of the tank and started digging, slowly digging, a new burrow in the back-left corner, exactly where the heater is which is a bad thing for me. First of all, why is it a bad thing? I usually leave my heater on for 2-3 days, turn it off for the following 2-3 days and I alternate like this all the time. The bad side to the new burrow being next to the heater is that Tarantulas will dig and hide in burrows often to escape the heat of the sun in the wild, so the same applies inside a tank. Many people actually killed their T's by puting a heater UNDERNEATH the tank and leaving it on all the time, making in sort that if the tarantula burrows to escape the heat she'd only get closer to the heat source and therefore she ends up frying. Now, why T's burrow when it's too hot yet don't realise that the burrow is much more warm is something I don't know, but it's probably part of their instinct as wild animals. Anyway, I decided to keep my heater routine anyway and all was fine. (for the record, my heater is situated on the back of the tank and my routine is to avoid any damage it could do to Storm)
Now this morning, my dog came in again like every mornings. In my new room, Storm's tank is placed at about the same height level as my mid-body which you don't want to hear about, I'm sure lol. It makes for an easy view on the tank and inside the tank. This morning at 7AM my dog started to whine ALOT. I woke up, of course, and there he was standing on the corner of my bed, staring like mad crazy at Storm and whining. I was pissed. I looked around and Storm was having a walk. I told my dog "dude do you know that if you try anything against her she can kill you" my dog suddenly ran out of my room and went upstairs lol.
So what was Storm doing? Goin' back to her abandonned burrow! But I destroyed her old burrow pretty much because crickets would hide in it trying to escape their definitive doom day, therefore I had to get them out of there and it led me to destroy most of the burrow. Storm was just there, walking around the good ol' burrow she did, then she went in face first and started re-arranging it. She finally did it and right now she's calmly relaxing inside her new which was her ol' abandonned burrow.
Storm just seems like she can't decide which corner she definately wants lol. I remember before she built this one burrow in the back-right corner, she dug just about in all 3 other corners back then, and decided to keep the back-right one for THE burrow and after all her hard work, she abandonned it, made another half-deep burrow for a couple weeks (like if they were vacations lol) and abandonned this one as well to go back into the comfort of her first burrow.
Storm will always amaze me. There's only one thing I have left to see her do and that is drink water. In everything I've ever heard from Tarantula keepers, rare are the ones who were able to see their Ts drink and I want to be one of the rare ones to have seen it. I've seen her take a random walk, catch her food, silk her burrow, silk randomly, molt, build a burrow, try to escape, all sorts of things, but never ever did I see her drink. I know when she does because she puts alot of substrate in the water dish when she does. Ah well, maybe my luck will turn one day.
