I learned something about video games yesterday that somehow eluded me for 28 years. I went to Gamestop and they didn't have the game either. I was really pissed just because of all the gas and time I wasted driving around. Turns out there are two different kinds of release dates. One is just a typical release and the other is called a "Street Date". Very few games have Street Dates. Gamestop has a list on their counter where you can see the huge list of alllllllllllll the games coming out in the upcoming months. Some will have "SD" beside them. That means the game will be in-store prior to the release date to be on shelves the day of.

Now if it doesn't have it, then that means the game is truly released BY PUBLISHER on that date. This means everyone gets the game the following day. Silent Hill V is naturally not compared to Gears of War 2 or Fable II, so it was shipped yesterday, and all stores receive it today.

This is really annoying. If it's a street date, then Gamespot.com, Best Buy, etc. should update the release date and say,"It'll be in stores 10/01". Simple.

You know what the oddest thing? Someone on a forum pointed this out, and he made a good point. When was the last time you went to a store for a DVD that was advertised on TV and every website and find out it won't be there until the next day of release? Exactly.

Exactly. I mean it really doesn't bother me I have to wait 1 day more. It's just too many companies post release dates when they are incorrect as if it's a difficult thing to get right.

And you are absolutely right about movies. When a DVD says,"Ironman coming to DVD September 30" IT'S THERE. It's ready.

Just ship the stupid games all prior to release, put them on the shelves when you say they will be, and stop jerking people around. I don't care when the release date is, just make it accurate. It's not that tough.

I really don't understand the point of this. Best Buy, Gamespot, Gamestop, EBGames, Target, and Walmart all post a release date for any given game.

Some games have a "Street Date" given. When that occurs, most companies receive copies of the game prior to the date posted for release so they can have them on shelf the day they are supposed to be available.

However, most games aren't like that. It is because of this that it takes 1 day longer before the games are actually on the shelves.

Why don't the websites and companies push the release date to the ACTUAL date they are going to be available?

I just drove around town expecting Silent Hill V to be on the shelves. Gamespot claims 9/30 is the release date. It may be released to the retailers, but if you can't buy it until tomorrow, then it's not really a release date.

I get tired of wasting gas and time making a special trip just to find out this particular game wasn't given a "street date".

I have followed the storyline through Damascus and Jerusalem. I'm going to Acre now. So far, I have only gotten to make 2 assasinations per storyline. I am sure hoping there's a CRAPLOAD more. Above post said on their 7th, so I guess after Acre I go back and do more assasination missions at the other cities. Hope so.

I started playing it like an assasins game but after playing it for quite a bit already and only killing guards mainly and getting only 2 assasinations, kind of forced to playing it like some God of War game where you just kill whomever to get entertainment.

Still like the game overall, it is fun to explore, just too many of the same things....too many citizens to rescue, all the same.

Well that really is odd. I'm reading forums where people have gotten theirs. And yet Wal-mart, Target and Best Buy didn't have it hahah

lol I went all over town hitting about 5 stores. Oh well, I guess I should have done better research. But they all told me the release date was the 14th, and Ubisoft's site says 14th now. So eh.

Gamespot is always accurate on their release dates because they have connections to pretty much any of the publishers out there. They talk on a regular basis with most of these companies, especially Ubisoft.

Why did they, for 3 months or more, have a Nov 13 release date when it's 14th?

Quite a lot of people were scratching their heads tonight going into Gamestop or EBGames wondering why the game wasn't out on shelves yet.

I feel likean idiot because I never checked OTHER sources because I THOUGHT gamespot was accurate.

For MONTHS they had the release date on November 13. I went to Best Buy, Target, and Wal-mart and none of them had it because it's not released until tomorrow????

Why the crap did Gamespot put for so long the wrong date? It was a waste of time driving over to find it's not out.

Anyone know why?
