130mph in my Ford Mondeo ST24 2.5 V6... Scary, could have killed someone especially as I was on the motorway. I felt ashamed and never did it again, that was 5 years ago... :x

not everyone wants to play games for the eye candy, and those that do are ignorant to a PC'sbreakdown and what statisics for various parts mean. if you spend the rest of your days placing your value on benchmark scores and studiesbased on popularity u deserve to be hit by a bus. also id like to note a pentium D has a greater ghz threshold to a C2D before O.C. and continues that trend when O.C. so as i can see it C2D's suck (at least in your little world XD)

aura_enchanted

I agree dude. But when people start saying I max Crysis at 1280x1024 on a 9600GT they are making quite a bold statement... I'm here to help correct that outlandish statement... But yes those who base there enjoyment through a game by benchmarks then they do deserve to be hit by a bus!!

But I'm a different creature.... an overclocker!! :D

not true there is a difference the 9600 cant play company of heroes (very well) or DoW 2 but an 8800 can XDaura_enchanted

Yes although thats true to a point it really depends on the resolution... stick with the 9600GT IF you are going to go round saying you can max crysis at 1280x1024 which I think is ridiculous...

However if you want to savour the games eye candy and run the resolution at 1600x1200 and above, then the 8800GT's extra power in GFLOPS are the way to go...

If you were serious about gaming you wouldn't run graphics intensive games with a 9600GT at 1280x1024. But a 9600GT IS on par at that resolution... however if you are a serious gamer you would run at least 1600x1200 or high such as HD resolutions... I honestly don't know where some people get off on the basis that they max Crysis at 1280x1024... Its sort of a hollow victory... Its like saying I can max any game at 800x600 well of course I can but who plays on that resolution??? People with 14" Monitors? And they call themselves "gamers?" PLEASE....

All's I'm saying is if your play at 1280x1024 you can play well with a 9600GT... above that resolution get a 8800GT, as they have the required horsepower for larger resolutions...

A "Yougamers" study for the most popular graphics cards of all time is the trusty 8800GT... Here are the fact, although I had *ALOT* bit of trouble because I have firefox :p Yes I can see you are Teddyrob from your avatar, I'm Fillo1980 pleased to meet you :p

Go here for my data..... http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/geforce_9600_gt_sli_performance/page9.asp

I will defend to the end when someone incorrectly claims the 8800GT is miles better than the 9600GT. Facts are it isn't. 32FPS is no better than 32FPS

Who do you think you are? A crusader for mid range graphics cards everywhere? Are you on the 9600GT's payroll? You sound a bit like a 9600GT Troll...

Those are still branded and clocked cards there...

So in the game Crysis in one of your reviews of Tom's hardware we see a 9600GT 1024MB SLI and it is miles below the 8800GT. Whats going on there then when two of your precious 9600GT's can't beat a single 8800GT??? If thats not miles apart I don't know what is...

BTW a 9800GT is more the 8800GT equal... being slighty better on the benchmarks... but a stock 9600GT? I don't think so... yeah its a good mid-range card but better than a 8800GT? I don't believe your data.

Personally playing Crysis on 1280x1024 is not maxing Crysis you need a bigger monitor than a 19" at 1600x900 and 1920x1080 Crysis is a beautiful game AND there are some high powered GPU's that CAN max it at that resolution

Ah ha! Dark Soul gems my friend are basically empty GRAND SOUL gems that must be placed in a Necromancers altar. You will see these at certain locations such as The Dark Fissure cave. After this you have to *WAIT* for a clear night i.e When the stars are out... this could involve alot of waiting... after this you should see a shaft of light coming down from the heavens and presto! A Black Soul Gem!! They are also stronger than the Grand Soul Gem with larger capacity!

Good luck!8)

9600GT = 208 GFLOPS (Graphical power) theres no way a 9600GT could take on a 8800GT which is at 336 GFLOPS... its so much more powerful than the 9600GT

teddyrob

Strangely enough it manages to keep up with the 8800GT with the majority of games with AA applied. I know I've got 8800GT and my dad 9600GT I built it. I know EXACTLY how these cards perform at games and there is nothing between them. I don't know what the big deal is with people but these cards at not miles apart at all. Surprising is how the 9600GT sometimes ends up better than the 8800GT with AA. 8800GT is better without AA generally but with AA these cards are matched.

What is your point? That a highly clocked Palit 9600GT is better than a stock 8800GT?? Of course it is because a stock 9600GT has 650Mhz core, Shader 1625Mhz and memory clock of 900Mhz... whilst our palit 9600GT has 750Mhz Core, shader 1750Mhz and memory of 1000Mhz thats 325Mhz increase across the board!!

So please get your facts right before comparing a stock 8800GT to a highly clocked branded Palit 9600GT... a stock 9600GT 512 CAN NOT BEAT A STOCK 8800GT 512 Period....

Back on topic yes a 9600GT at 1280x1024 can max certain games... but Crysis HELL NO!!

so would a -Geforce 8600gts Super 512mb

-2.8ghz quad-core

-2gig ddr2 800mzh maby 4 might by another 2gb

work fine? on max?

Mdog333

On 1024x768 on medium settings yes it would run average of 30-34 which is playable...

I have an AMD Althon x2 6000+, 8GB DDR2 800Mhz ram and a EVGA 8800 GTS 512 SSC (which eats 8800GTX's and Ultra's) and on 1600x1200 very high quality no AA or AF I am lucky to get 28FPS!! on high I get 36-42FPS which for me is just about playable...

On MAX? As I said before theres not a GPU on this planet you can buy that will max Crysis at 2560x1600 Period. At 1900x1200 a 295 and 4870x2 will get 25-35 FPS but not max, so no a 8600gts will never ever max crysis... FYI MAX is all settings on Very high, 4xAF,16xAA Everything as high as it will go is MAX.

I would say a new power supply would do the trick... PSU's that are of low quality as the poster said, operate at 70-80% efficiency so your 500w could be providing 350-375 watts of clean power. I know a 4850 at max load is around 250+ you will need 89 watts for your CPU and your ram, hard drive and cd/dvd drive could be pushing your total power consumption towards your maximum power efficiency thus imparing your graphics card...

I would seriously invest in a decent branded PSU 650w, or upwards for future proof gaming should you feel the need to upgrade futher...

Good luck! :)
