I am usually indifferent when it comes to Muse, I really like Origin of Symmetry, and Absolution was ok. Their other stuff though is pretty average at best, they go for that very over the top sound these days instead of the good rocking sound from Origin of symmetry. On The Resistance though they channel Queen, a lot. Some parts sounded directly ripped from queen songs, which isn't bad but it doesn't really make Muse stand out. You know what to expect from Muse, ridiculous and over the top songs with cheesy bordering on silly lyrics, except in this case the lyrics are even cheesier than before especially on the first track. Its not a bad album, not at all. It does manage to bore me pretty quickly though with its overly similar sound. i think Muse are talented, but these days they just sound monotonous. Their last album managed to balence over the top with their old kind of sound vaguely well, but this one just goes over the top in a way that makes the album dull to listen too. I still think its a pretty good album though, and I know bands change over time so I wont say something stupid like Muse sold out, but they are starting to turn into Oasis with their predictable formula.
Overall I give it a 6 out of 10.
