I enjoyed this film, I have been following the movie for a while because I saw a movie similar to it a while ago called Them. People say it ripped off them, but they are wrong since The Strangers was written before Them. Though they are similar the one thing The Strangers does better than Them is motive, in Them there is a twist at the end that reveals the motive behind the killings. I personally thought it wasn't done well and almost ruined the movie for me. I still liked it alot, but The Strangers gives no motive or reason to why these people are doing what they do.
Sure it had alot of typical slasher jump scares, but the movie also had great atmosphere, the guy who plays dennis from its always sunny in philadelphia had a small part which was awesome to see, and the fact that we never really see the killers face's worked well. The directer based the film off a mix of experiences as a kid when a random guy knocked on his door asking for somebody who wasnt there, the next day he found out that same guy had robbed and killed people nearby. It was also loosely based on the Keddie Cabin murders which I suggest you look up.
Overall I give it an 8 out of 10
