My review of Zombieland.

I was a bit hesitant to see this since it sounded a bit generic, but thankfully I was proven wrong. Well mostly. Zombieland is a very fun and gory film, and Woody Harrleson is as awesome as expected. I liked Jessie Seisenberg more than I expected. I wouldn't call him a good actor yet, but he is more interesting than Michael Cera. Abigial Breslin was pretty good and so was Emma Stone. Their characters though were not great. Its not really a fault, but the characters in this film are pretty dull aside from Woody Harrleson, and the awesome cameo character who I will not spoil. Maybe it was the hype, but I found this film pretty underwhelming. It was fun sure, but it also made me think how little you can really do with zombies.

So far in the last decade zombies can either run..or walk. They are not are not that interesting to watch anymore for me. I can still enjoy them, heck I enjoyed this one, but overall this film was not much different from a B movie. That is not bad, I love B movies, but I think it is getting a bit too much credit. Aside from the actors, and the budget, there is not much about this film that seperates it from other zombie films. It is very fun and thrilling, but I didnt get much of a sense of danger for most of it. The kills were fun to watch but I knew who was going to live. The zombies looked good, but in the end I felt this was a funny action comedy zombie film, nothing more and nothing less. The only really stand out hilarious moment was the cameo. The rest was what I expected from a zombie film. It was still good and I recommend it, but now I have seen this film I am taking a break from zombies. I wasn't expecting anything more than a zombie action comedy so in that respect the film did not disappoint. However, I did not find it as funny or good as Shaun of the dead. To me the better zombie comedies this year were Pontypool, and Dead Snow. Also Return of the living dead, and Braindead are still my overall favorite zombie comedies. This is still pretty good though.

Overall I give it a 7 out of 10.
