Thought I knew that anything 'bove 24fps is perceived to be smooth motion by human eyes.

And graphics cards are getting outdated every 6 months, so in another 2 months you might have something like 9800gt that'd beat the 8800gt hands-down. So the 8800gt isn't future-proof either

I'm sorry, that's a pile of lies and crap. You can clearly tell from 24FPS to 60FPS... play any game and you will notice it. You wouldn't notice it as much in Turned Based RPGs, but they don't need good fps. Play RTS or FPS and you will tell.

I can easily play RTS's at like 20 FPS :|

Exactly. Fps problem is totally subjective

Maybe you can, 'coz 24 is marginal. As for me, any two above 24 have been indistinguishable 'coz I pay more attention to the game. Totally subjective

[QUOTE="TrooperManaic"]I know the king of price/ performance is 8800GT but I have a gut feeling after a driver update that the 9600GT will either match or surpass 8800GT. Right now I have a HD3850 512mb but it isnt exacally giveing me the absolute best performance in all my games so I plan on a upgrade, also I am getting my money back because my friend wants onne but dosent have a credit card.Wesker776

the 9600gt will probably never surpass the 8800gt, they use the same architecture and the 8800gt has 48 more stream processors.slickchris7777

I can see that NVIDIA is the new king of fooling people with names.

Precisely.

It's going to get worse with the 9800 GTX series. Just watch. ;)

9800GTX vs. 8800GT 512 vs. 8800GTX. He he he:P

Well why not go for the 9600gt and overclock it. It would come touchingly close to the 8800gt.

Anyway, your eyes can't tell the difference between 40fps and 60 fps, so why bother

mastershake575

actually most people's can and that comparison was pretty stupid it won't get near 40fps in most games out there unless the settings are lower which is dumb

Its not a question of whether it will or won't .Fact is that it does at high settings at sane resolutions. Please read a few reviews at least before trashing everything.

Anyway, considering the current prices, the guy did the right thing in getting the 8800gt. 9600gt seems pretty pointless at its current pricepoint

The 8800gt should be able to handle future games better because of the higher ammount of SP's.

Higher no. of SPs does not necessarily translate into higher perf. You need a wider memory bus and better overall architecture for that. Take, for example, the HD3850. It has a whopping 320 SPs but has lower perf than the 8800gt with the same memory bus.

Plus who knows what Crytek and like-minded comps have up their sleeves and in their heads. So decide what u can realistically afford and go for it. Happy gaming

Right. A 300W PSU doesn't really have enuf juice through the 12 vein to power something like the 8800gt or the 9600
