America's Roast Beef, Yes Sir!...

...or Arby's as it is more commonly referred to, is once again offering breakfast at its Muskegon area restaurants. To some this might not seem like a big deal but, oh, believe me, it is. Allow me to explain: It used to be that Arby's breakfast was the only fast-food breakfast that I would be willing to purchase. McDonald's breakfast is way too greasy, and Burger King's, while not as greasy, just doesn't have much in the way of taste. Taste, mind you, being a very key component to an enjoyable breakfast. Arby's breakfast was priced in the same range as McDonald's and Burger King's, but their food was far more superior and came in larger portions. A few comparisons: McDonald's breakfast sandwiches are barely the size of a hockey puck and can quickly render a person incapacitated and cause one to seek refuge in the bathroom (If you know what I mean). Burger King's breakfast sandwiches, again, and I can't emphasize this enough, are simply too bland. At Arby's you could get some egg, melted cheese and a healthy portion of thinly sliced ham between two big, thick slices of soft sourdough bread. McDonald's serves those thin, rinky-dink, stale hash-browns, and Burger King's little tater-tot wannabes are all crunch and no flavor. Arby's, on the other hand, served two large, crispy on the outside, perfect potato consistency on the inside, potato cakes. All that being said, you can imagine my disdain and severe bought of depression that came about; after learning, some 5-6 years ago, that Arby's had taken breakfast off their menu. I learned of this terrifying news while in the drive-thru line, so it wasn't like I could plan one big last breakfast at Arby's and offer a proper goodbye. I was left to drive to work reeling from the bad news and I had an empty stomach to boot. Now back to the good news: I don't eat fast-food breakfast everyday, on average once or twice a week. And after suffering through McDonald's and Burger King’s breakfasts for nearly all of my adult life, you can imagine my surprise when the following happened to me on Tuesday morning. On my way to work, I passed the nearby Arby's restaurant and noticed the Arby's mascot, "Oven Mitt," who was cheerily dancing around and holding a sign. I didn't get a chance to read the sign, but instantly a warm feeling of excitement and hope washed over me. No, I wasn't peeing my pants; I was just realizing that the improbable was happening. Breakfast was returning to Arby's! I could have slammed on my brakes, jumped out of the car and tackled "Oven Mitt" in joy, but alas, I was running a little late to work and did not have the time to spare. This morning, my hopes from the previous day were confirmed. There it was, on the brightly lit drive-thru menu. A mouth-watering photo of a sourdough breakfast sandwich piled high with ham, egg and melted cheese. Priced at a very modest $3.19, I nearly ordered two of the #4 combos that come with the aforementioned sandwich, two potato cakes and small Pepsi. (I would have gotten OJ, but it always tastes terrible after you've brushed your teeth.) I was placed in such a good mood by the fact that Arby's breakfast would now once again be my fast-food breakfast staple and decided to share my joy with you all. That's it for now. I'm thinking Arb--I mean, Take it easy. EDIT--Any user who plans on making submissions to The Simpsons show guide should read the following: This news is a bit old, but in case you haven't heard: Staff is retooling the submission system this weekend. Details Staff has asked all editors to clear out their queues before 3:00 EST today (June 30). My queue is currently empty and I won't be on the computer later today to be able to process subs before the 3:00 EST deadline. So please do not submit anything to The Simpsons guide until after the new submission system is up and running, which will hopefully be Monday, July 2. Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.
