It's not hard to do... I did the same thing. I signed up, got cut off, got my 1500 points, then found out that registering for rewards and registering for the contest are two different things.
Don't worry about it though: After that, I signed up for the contest, returned College Hoops 2K6 and NHL 2K6, picked up Major League Baseball 2K6 and NBA Live 2006, and then got another 1500 points. You may also want to look into NBA 2K6, Madden 2006, and King Kong. dude, i hate sports games... every thing u named is a sports game... and i already have king kong because its a good game, not just for achievements, and yes i have all 1000 for it you cant play through the game and not get them all.

ok, it kinda worked now... the register button didnt show up til i was logged out of xbox.com and tried it... BUT after it verified my contact info it just went to a page that has a 'return to my xbox rewards' link... clicking that just went to the same 'continue' blank page....
this is just idiotic, they should have let people register earlier and then started the contest at a given date. then there wouldn't be such a overload on the site. starting the contest before being able to register is just stoopid
