It is a great game in its own right. Every time you start a new game you get a randomized tech tree, meaning that it will be difficult to have any 2 playthroughs be exactly the same. Customization wise it is on the lower end of 4X games - nowhere near as complex as GalCiv II [in relation to customizing the look of your ships at least - each ship section has a set look depending on race and a specific number of weapon hard points], and slightly less than Space Empires V [only in component decision though, you have more options per hull type in my opinion but hulls are much more specialized]. I would say that SoTS + Argos Naval Yard [or the GoTY] is a great buy. I purchased both a long while ago at full price and never regretted it.carlosjuero

What kind of components is there to choose from when designing ships apart from weapons? Also, how is the combat compared to GCII and SEV? In GCII, I found the space battles to be lacking in tactical options and i found myself skipping most of them. In SEV, while there was a lot of strategies to choose from, the AI was horrible and ships needed to be micromanaged most of the time.

Gamespot's review isnt very thorough on these subjects and there has been 3 expansions since the review, so im wondering how is the game right now :P

Ive always loved 4x games based in space and i was wondering if it was worth picking up SotS. I've just read a preview of the SotS2, which is looking pretty good, and the complete collection of the first installment is only 19$ on impulse.

Is the game relatively bug free? How would you compare it to games like Galactic Civilizations II and Space Empires V (which I both loved)? Do you have other similar games to suggest?

Thank you

You mean you would just hold on to my 4870 for more time? The problem i have with this card is its lack of memory, which causes me problem at higher resolutions As of now im kind of leaning towards the 6950. Its cheaper than the 570 and their performance seem very similar. The 460 is a generation old, and id rather have a newer card. Thank you all for the help btw

My current computer specs are : i7 920 processor, ati 4870 512mb, 3gb of ram and windows vista 32bit.

Ive been meaning to upgrade to windows 7 64 bit for a while and i decided now was the time! Obviously with this upgrade im going to get a new set of ram, probably 6 or 12 gb, since ram is now so cheap.

Ive also decided to get a new video card (this is where i need your help) as my monitor has a native resolution of 1920x1080. Since my video card only has 512mb of memory, i tend to get some performance issues at such an high resolution. I've been away from the computer hardware market for quite a while so i dont know what the newest video cards are like.

Basically, heres what im looking for :

-at least 1gb of memory

-mid-high range (200-300$)

-overclocking is a plus, but I'm not really into that (might try it later on)

-Don't tell me to crossfire, i had another 4870 and it crapped on me and, while the performance was good when it worked, the amount of issues i got isn't worth it.

Also, im not sure if theres another generation of video cards thats coming really soon, if thats the case, i wouldnt mind waiting a bit more to upgrade (1 month?)

Thank you!

Have you recently put any new ram in the pc? It recently just happened to me where I put some new ram in my pc and it started to make games crash and just gave me problems in genral.

Grymreign

Nah, i didnt make any hardware change in the computer since i built it a while ago.

Also, i removed the oldest of the 2 cards. So far, i havent had any problems but like i said, the crash when leaving the game with 1 card is random, so ill see. Ill update this topic if this doesnt do it. Anyway, ty for the help.

Ive been running ATI 4800s in crossfire for a while now but recently ive started having problems.

In crossfire mode, the performance is fine (ie very good) but games will randomly crash, sometimes even giving me a bsod.

With crossfire deactivated, games will work fine during gameplay. However, they will sometime crash when i quit them, not during gameplay, but really only when i click the quit button. The computer then freezes to a blackscreen and i have to restart it.

Ive had these problems with multiple games : Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2, EVE online, Starcraft 2...So i dont think it is game-related. Ive also tried multiple drivers, so i dont think it is a driver issue also.

Specs : 2x ati 4800s 512mb, i7 920, 3gb ram, asus P6T deluxe motherboard. Nothing is overclocked. Both cards are also well-cooled so i doubt overheating is causing my problems.

*edit* OS is Vista 32bit

Bumb

Ive also added another one, which i think is much better than the previous two. Also, if you do listen to any of those, i suggest you listen to them entirely as i think they start rather slowly but build up quite nicely.

Needs a bit of improvement, and is far to simple for someone that's been using it for three months

While ive been playing around with the program for a while, ive only started using it more extensively recently, and i did state that the 2 songs were not complicated.

And can you elaborate on what you dislike about them. Is the melody just plain horrible or are they simply too simple,etc..?

I started playing with FL Studio a few months ago (truly an amazing program) and i felt like sharing some of the music ive made. Its nothing too complicated: both compositions are piano only. I never had any musical training (although now i wish i had) so all the knowledge i used to make this music came from the internet.

Id appreciate if you could give me some comments or tips, especially if you have some knowledge in the domain.
