Last Blog Here - Go See Me at TVRage.com

The best people here? Yes, the ex-TV Tome people here are great. The best people though, (the smartest) have moved to TVRage. This will be my final blog here on this horribly failed site. I believe, and will say TVRage is as a great improvement on TV Tome, as tv.com is a failure (sorry for the word play). I can’t even begin to explain just how TVR is a better site. I can’t say if Snide screwed this site up on his own; but I can say he did NOTHING to make it better. Snide clearly hated the TV Tome users here. That much is clear in the rules he laid out with his limits on users submitting stuff here. I really miss the old TV Tome, but I really love the new TV Tome replacement at TVRage! It’s like TV Tome on steroids! I’ll blog at you there. Yes, I mean I’m gone. Yes, I mean the people I like are contributing there. So I’m gone from this horrible site. Bye. Fu

The People Here

Okay, I have found out why I should be here – the people. I am here because although this site sucks, I love the people. Can someone grow relationships over the net? I say defiantly yes! I look for the blogs, and love to hear peoples feelings; their thoughts. I love to Blog, and love reading other’s blog’s. Yeah, not so much the stat blogs though. What’s up with that? Do I care about someone else’s level? Their denial number? Please, get over that / yourself. It’s just not that important to us. And yes, some of my best fiends are doing this. Sorry guys. Use a title, create a blog – stat’s not so much (okay, none at all). Fu

Why Am I Here?

Why am I here, and why do I have to post negative blogs about this site, versus ones praising how things are going here? I wake up every day expecting to see improvements here. Maybe even seeing the bugs being fixed. Instead, I’ve seen months go by where this site steadily craters! On the current bug (of many bugs), Snide blogs the problem is fixed. Two days later, the problem has not been fixed. Thanks Snide(?). People are leaving. Ok, the really good ones never came over (like Faris). They could see that TV Tome was gone and nothing would replace it. The were correct. This (tv.com) site reinforces my admiration of John and what he accomplished with TV Tome, versus what the mighty CNET was able to completely fail at. I love the blog feature. however I would gladly give it up to get a TV Tome “like” site back. Digger3000 is working on a replacement site, and I recommend everyone here help his site out. My view of Digger3000 has taken a 180 degree turn, after seeing his site [http://betaboards.gotdns.com/teleguides/all_shows.php]. We’ll always disagree on his lost “carry over” TV Tome points here, but since their gone for all of us now, what the hey, I say. Yeah, maybe he’s right, maybe someone who loves this stuff should be allowed to fix it, versus people who just clock in every day. Ouch! I want to really express my feelings about this site, but my manners prohibit it. I will congratulate John though. The best business deal one can do is to sell one’s company to an idiot, then buy it back later for a much reduced price, after they have screwed it up. That’s business genius! Yes, I’m saying that John and a revamped TV Tome will reappear once his non-compete clause with CNET expires. And yes, I don’t think the PTB can ever get this site fixed. Fu

The Joke That Never Makes Me Laugh

TV.com has proven to be a colossal failure. TV Tome, where art thou? Three months of unending horrendous bugs, goofs, bad design, and bad decisions have caused me to stop contributing to the show guides here. I felt honored to be an Editor at TV Tome, but here I was treated as trash (as a TC)! TV.com has no clue how to run a fan based site. Yeah, let’s limit user submissions. That’s better! Yeah, let’s not have any real Editors. That’s better! Let’s let the show forums run amuck (no moderation). That’s better! Yeah! Are there any positives here? Are there any improvements over TV Tome? I can only think the limitedly useful blog feature here as an improvement, and I would gladly give that up to get a working fan based site back! One big positive here definitely has to be Gislef. He has made a great contribution as a Mod here. He’s integrity is intact. The other big positive is MacDeacon. I tried to convince him to be an Editor at TV Tome without success, but he is shining here as the TC of several shows (including SGA). These positives are balanced against the loss of Faris, and he’s excellently run SG-1 guide and Forum. I’ve said before, tv.com had to buy TV Tome, because it would have failed miserably competing against TV Tome! It has even found a way to fail miserably without TV Tome being around. Failed miserably! A note to “absent Editors” or MIA, you guys were way smarter than me. Whereas we both knew this site was a joke at the start, you guys knew sooner than me that this site would remain an Editor hating joke of a site. Will I continue to post here and edit ST:E? Yes. At least until another TC takes over the guide. Fu

I've Been Robbed! Not Really

MacDeacon has just over taken me as the Top Contributor of Stargate: Atlantis. Yes, this is a good thing. He has been a great contributor at SGA, and will be a great TC (remember, I continue to say there are no real Editors at tv.com). MacDeacon is a good friend of mine, and more importantly, was also a friend of Faris, and that should mean A LOT to the fans of the old tvt SG-1 and SGA sites. SGA deserved much better than I was giving it here at tv.com. I have had major problems with tv.com, which I will spell out I my next blog (unrelated to this event). So I’m glad MacDeacon got the guide, and MacDeacon will give the attention that the guide deserves. I also know MacDeacon to be an honorable person who will give all submissions an honest review that they deserve (as I felt I had). I also appreciate MacDeacon making me a Trusted Contributor of SGA. That too speaks volumes. So good luck to MacDeacon. And I will continue to be a contributing fan of SGA. All is good.

Back In The High (Speed) Life Again! Yeah!!

At least to paraphrase Steve Winwood. My move to the country is done, all though some unpacking is still left. However, I now have high speed, full time, internet access again. Yeah! The downside is now I have much less time to spend on the internet. I really miss / hate that. Ok, back to tv.com. I feel a little better about things, but only a little. TC’s (Top Contributors [there are still no real Editors here {except maybe the Mods}]) still can’t do much, even if they have a Q (as I call the queue). TC’s can’t control their forums! That’s stupid. TC’s can’t add / delete News here! That’s real stupid, as the News items here are a pathetic joke laughed at by all! TC’s with less than 80 points are powerless to edit guides they should be editing (in the limited way set here). Really, really stupid… stupid!!! Lets see, the PTB dumped months of submittals on TC’s with new Q’s, but then gave them two weeks (or less) to work on them. This may have been a bug, but close to 100 submittals disappeared from my Q. Once with only four day max old submittals and the second time with five day max old submittals. Yes, I should have done better, but at least I wasn’t NEAR AS BAD as tv.com has been with submittals. Plus, I ACTUALLY work hard to verify accuracy of the submissions I receive, unlike tv.com. Yes, I got a lot of points here after I got a Q, in fixing the submissions and changes made by the staff on my guides. Ouch! The changes made here at tv.com and my meteoric rise in level (don’t ask me how I did that) have kept me here this far. I hope to see more changes made to fix the poor set up here, as described above, but I am more hopeful now. I do really feel the loss of the really great contributors from tvt that have decided not to join tv.com. I very nearly was one of the missing too (although, I might not have been missed). My next blog will be a shout out to my friends here. I was going to include it here, but I quickly realized it would be WAY TO BIG! That’s good, right?

I Have Moved To The Country

I finally decided to leave Houston for the Hill Country here in Texas. I moved from the forth largest city in the U.S. to one of the smallest. That’s OK, as there is much more to do here. I’m near the Guadalupe (nice white water canoeing) and spacious state parks. I also leave behind the oppressive humidity that made Houston famous as the most air-conditioned city in the U.S. (world maybe?). The downside is I am back to dialup after more than ten years of T-1 internet speeds. The nearest office supply/computer store is 25 miles away and the nearest real computer store is 80 miles away in San Antonio. The town’s newspaper only comes out once a week. However, that might be a good news thing, as how much can really be said about cattle futures in a week? Well, I’ll use my blog to post updates on this change for those with little or nothing else to do but read the blogs here. Fu

Robert E. Howard

As I have said, I am a great fan of Robert E. Howard. Here is one of my favorite poems by him. -------------------------------------------------------------- Conan When I was a fighting-man, the kettle-drums they beat, The people scattered gold-dust at my horse's feet; But now I am a great king, the people hound my track, with poison in my wine cup, and daggers at my back. --The Road of Kings I had a hard time putting together a bibliography for REH. For someone who lived a short life, he wrote a lot. Unfortunately (or fortunately), several well known novelists completed his stories and outlines, making the task of making the list that much harder. I hereby call upon tv.com to create a category of “created by” or “characters by” for novelist who’s work is turned into a tv show (such as Conan, etc.). My favorite story by far of REH is “The Treasure of Tranicos.” I recommend it to everyone. It’s a Conan story, and I hope you enjoy it as much I did. However, realize the guy was a genus. Read his other works on Solomon Kane and King Kull, to name just a few of the characters he created.

Banner and Etc.

I want to thank The_Unknown2 for creating what I feel is a very impressive banner for Fu (me). I will add that The_Unknow2 was a great contributor and poster at tvt. I’m glad he’s here at tv.com. I was a little hesitant about tv.com, but people like The_Unknown2 (and Gislef) have assuaged my hesitation. One comment on Gislef, the guy is a phenomenon. When I became Editor of SGA (at tvt), I learned just how much he contributed there. Most all the “Recaps” were written by him. I found overall any and all contributions by Gislef (Steve) required no editing whatsoever. I think tv.com has become what it is now, due in a large part to Steve’s influence, suggestions, and ideas. Thanks Steve.

Science Fiction

My love of Science Fiction: I have read every book written by Edgar Rice Burroughs (but I do hate the Tarzan series after book 4). I loved all the “Carter” (Mars) series and the Venus series. I have read ALL of Robert E. Howard’s works. It’s a crying shame how the Conan movies have misconstrued the character. Conan is a super smart, but brooding character. I also recommend reading the Solomon Kane series. Robert Heinlein went whacky at the end, but his early works are all classics. True genius. My favorite is “Farnham’s Freehold,” but his most famous novel probably is “Stranger in a Strange Land.” Arthur C. Clarke – need I say more? I love his work, but I was VERY disappointed with “3001, The Final Odyssey.” It was just not up to par. Writers I read without question – The three C’s - Clive Cussler, Michael Crichton, and Tom Clancy. If they write it, I read it. There are so many more writers I could mention here, Tolkien, Ayn Rand, C. S. Lewis, Frank Herbert, and so many more.
