Early Retro Revival Week Action

I couldn't wait for Sunday, so i started a jump on some retro games. I installed Tatio Legends for PC yesterday and I was blown away by the collection. it's pretty sweet.

Bubble Bobble

I had to, I just had to, start off with one of my favorite games of all time. I played a few times, a tad rusty but the patterns I used to take out the baddies were flowing back to me.I also watched the designer Fukio Mitsuji's interview. It was a nice treat. he wanted to create something cute, that was simple to use,and invoked people playing with another person. Bubble Bobble is great in 1 player mode, but in 2 player mode, it's an awesome experience.

Did You Know?

- This game was ported to dozens of platforms. Some versions like the PC and NEs port, have their own bonuses for that system.

- There's lots of ways, and I mean lots of ways to make certain bonuses appear.

- There are two cheats built into the Arcade version of Bubble Bobble. Can you find them both?

Space Invaders

I played this game next. Man, I still can get my butt handed to me in this game. I give props to peeps who can get real highs scores in this game. I can barely get pass the first round. I watched the original creators Interview on this one too. He got the idea for the game after hearing about Star Wars.

Did You Know?

- Space Invaders was a really popular game. In Japan, specialty arcades opened with nothing but Space Invaders cabinets. It also attributed to a shortage of yen in japan!

-Legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto considers Space Invaders a game that revolutionized the industry, and was never interested in video games before seeing it.

-The 1980 Atari VCS version was the first official licensing of an arcade game and became the first "killer app" by quadrupling the system's sales.

Space Invaders part II

I also played this game, and like the first...well don't expect em to ever save your butt from invaders!

----

Elevator Action

I played this game next, I've only played the NES port before, and this is the first time I've seen the arcade game in action.

Did You Know?

- Most people, if they own a port of this, it's via the NES version.

-An enhanced remake of Elevator Action, titled Elevator Action EX, was released on the Game Boy Color in Japan. The game was released in the United States with a Dexter's Laboratory license, under the title Dexter's Laboratory: Robot Rampage.

Zoo Keeper

First time playing this game. You try to contain and avoid animals while surviving the time limit. There's two other types of bonus stages but they are weird. it's neat idea, but I think it's too crammed with these bonus stages.

Did you know?

-If Zeke touches the animals, Zelda will say "Oh No!", Zeke will curse "#$%&*@!!!!", and he will have to try again. ( i thought that was funny the first time I saw it :P)

Battle Shark

the last game I played yesterday might have been the best. This game is AWESOME. You play a submarine crew shooting down enemies (both air and sea) in almost light gun-like gameplay. The graphics, sound, experience, I know this game was made in 89, but if i played this game in 89 I'd think I'd melt from the experience.I played it until i beat it.

Did you know?

- In the arcade release you had to use a submarine periscope (you looked through it) on the cabinet to shoot at enemies. Freaking awesome!

I love indulging in retro goodness :P
