E3 2009- My reactions

E3 is, arguably, the most important (and exciting) event for both gamers and companies which are associated with gaming. In my opinion, I believe that this year's E3 was much better than what was shown at 2008.

This, is a short summary of my opinion for each of the 'major' gaming companies- Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft.

Microsoft:

Their presentation was done exceptionally well. About 5 new exclusives were shown. Most notably imo, Alan Wake- a game announced in 2006 and has had no new mentions until E3 09. Forza 3, leaked to death, was 'officially' announced for a holiday 09 release. Epic announced new XBLA game, it's a cool looking side-scrolling shooter (I thought they were gonna announce Gears Of war 3....lol).:)

Also, new info on Halo 3 ODST and Halo Reach- a prequel to the first Halo set for 2010. Not bad I must say.

Finally, Splinter Cell is back! Or, should I say Sam fisher, Conviction looked awesome imo and I'm a bit ticked that it'll be a 360 exclusive... At least, not for long

2 other new exclusives were mentioned as well. Crackdown 2 and Left For Dead 2, honestly though I'd rather see some announcement regarding HL 2 Episode 3 instead of L4D. Too bad for me that I won't get the chance to play Crackdwon 2- my 360 broke as I mentioned quite some time back :(

What really caught my eye, was project Natal. Yes, it's mainly for casual gamers I suppose but I don't see anything wrong in that . In a nutshell, it's full motion sensing without the use of any controller. If it works well, the Wii could be in trouble... Yet again, I don't think it will.

Another thing which caught my eye, and surprised me was 'Milo'. The Fable 2 creator, Peter *something* announced that their 'big' project was.... not a game (I think). Some virtual kid who can 'sense' your emotions and talk to you.... Ugh, wierd :?

To add to the list, the MGS series is now heading to Xbox 360, however MGS 4 still seems to be a PS3 exclusive as far as we know. Trust me, try any Metal Gear Solid title if you get the chance.

Some info and videos on some multiplats like Modern Warfare 2 (Looks like a....Generic shooter...Please dont kill me!), New Tony Hawks and a few others.

Overall, quite impressed by the MS conference. Still selling that 360 though :P

Nintendo:

Honestly, I sat there on my computer desk like this throughout most of it:

Eh.... Later on released that they were much better than last years. Their conference in terms of presentation and excitement was terrible. However, Nintendo announced some first party ownage; Sequel to Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Other M (Wow, never saw that coming...), Golden Sun DS (nothing special for me, but a lot of folks are happy) and some others like Mario and RPG 3. IMO, the Wii is no pathetic console like a lot of indivituals here think in GS. Hell, I might consider getting a Nintendo Wii in the future. A few things missing from this E3 though; No info on the New Wii Zelda, not only that but they did not mention much about Zelda Spirit Tracks which is coming out for the DS this fall. Oh, and they had enough time to do so as well.... What, 70 minutes? The other 2 conferences lasted about 2 hours... :|

Sony:

To be honest; their's was nothing special.... The PSP Go! Looks like some ripoff to me... The price is extremely high (ESPECIALLY here in the UK) and UMD-less drive? What kind of idea is/was that? Was noise of that thing even an issue... Well, it was, but not such an issue in which it needed to be put out imo.

The new PSP announcements were shattering though, A new Metal Gear, 'Peace Walker' and the Gran turismo PSP finally set for release. Both are coming out in this fall as well. Few more others are coming, like Assasin's Creed Bloodlines and Little Big Planet, exclusive software for the PSP- Sony just gave the system life again!:)

As for PS3, nothing big. AGENT- A new exclusive by Rockstar rather surprised me because it was exclusive... It should be going to the 360 as well, shouldnt it? :? The Last Gurdian was another exclusive announced, but it doesnt appeal to me- at all.

However... Uncharted 2 looks like a game which I will most definitely enjoy. The new trailer for GT 5 was cool but... Release date please? God of War 3 seems to be another game which I'd be interested in for sure.

So obvious and easy to predict; a motion sensing counterpart for the PS3 was shown as well.... Just a copy of Wii's Motion Plus I say. Good luck to developers to make games with it... I suppose.

So, I'd say that MS, yet again, won this year's E3, with Project Natal being the highlight. However, in terms of exclusive games, Nintendo delievered for sure, however had such a boring conference. As for Sony... at least their conference was entertaining I suppose.

Few other things I liked:

- Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

- New Final Fantasy XIII trailer

- Ratchet and Clank future footage

- Red Steel 2- SWEET looking game

- Assassin's Creed 2 trailer and gameplay.

Some things I didn't like:

- No Half-Life 2 Episode 3 info

- No GT5 Relase date

- No Zelda News

- Boring Nintendo Conference

- Expected a bit more from Sony

Wow, that was probably the biggest blog I've ever wrote... Probably missed a few things that I should've mentioned but, yeah... hope you enjoyed?

...Microsoft's Press conference E3 09

.... First half was awesome!

Splinter Cell Conviction, Alan Wake, MGS on X360, Halo 4... Not bad at all.

...

Then last half just CREEPED me out.

Check it yourself.... 'Project Natal'

The Wii is in trouble... I hope Nintendo have something so unexpected like this as well for their own good... and Sony, please dont copy, both should stick to what there supposed to do- video games.

Update: 360 broken. Decided to save up for a PS3.

I've been a bit lazy updating my blogs and reviews. So, I'll like to make this quick.

My 360 got the red rings about 2-3 weeks ago. It got fried by a bit of water(long story), but I turned it off, dried everything off and didn't play for a week. To my knowledge, most electrical items should dry up and work again after a week of not using them if they make contact with water. Seems like I was right; the 360 started to work again in it's normal state.

It perfrormed as it usually did. It still had the same everynow and then freezes, slowdown etc. BTW, it was like this as well before it got fried by water. However, it eventually did get the red rings after playing it for a while (say about 10 hours).

I managed to get a (very bad) picture of it:

  " border="0" />

I've sent it in for repair about a week ago. I must say, MS customer services are excellent; not only do they get it done quick, but I never had to wait at all when I was being directed on the phone. Quite a surprise.

To sum this up, I'm going to sell the 360 after it's done being repaired, and then get a PS3 by summer

...

Oh hell no...

I should've taken a picture of it

....

If you haven't guessed it by now, my 360 got the RROD. Well, once...

Long story short; I was playing the 360 for a bit and it froze. Then, I turned it off, waited a bit and turned it back on. Got the 3 red lights. Fortunately, I tried again and it worked...

However, I don't feel, well 'happy'. I know it is going to happen again.

On top of this, I only had my 360 for 2 months and I don't play a lot. At average, I play 2 hous on schooldays, and about 4 hours on weekends. The longest time I played in one go was 2.5 hours.

Sign of death do ya think(I certainly do)?

..... F03 glitches ruined the game for me. I'm ticked off and disappointed.

I was having a lot of fun. Lots.

I'm about 30 hours in, and have barely just started the main missions/quests. Yes, you may have noticed that I am going to mention glitches. Yes, I am.

Throughout my 30 hours, I encountred a few issues. One was when the game froze about 5 seconds after I autosaved... That, was very minor. I also encountered other various glitches.

But, today a 'gamebreaker'

I finished the mission ' Blood ties' in one of the game's many, many locations, Arfu. I went up to talk to the residents of that location after the mission. After stepping inside one of the houses, I was locked. I tried stepping back out, but it said that I needed a key to get out, but I got in completely fine without a key :?

So, I thought that I would try to kill the lady, to see if she has the key.... But lo and behold, she just disappears. Yes, that's pretty much it, the game autosaved 'for me' and my experience of the game was ruined.... Yes, I would restart again, but I know for a fact that I'm not gonna have the same experience, if you know what I mean. This was the first Fallout I've played, restarting the game is not going to feel right for me, and meh... Who knows if another game breaking glitch happens again?

I thought Fable 2 had bad glitches, but this is just disappointing and frustrating.

Got stuff

First of all, I got 3 new games.

Fable 2: I was about to be disgusted by the beginning, but about 2 hours in, it got me hooked. I find it a very great action-RPG now. Never played the first btw.

Devil May Cry 4: Haven't even opened it yet(lol), but I know it's going to be awesome. Hope it's as challenging as the other installments.

Fallout 3: Now, the first 2 fallouts... Never played them. I only got to know the actuial game unniverse when I saw Fallout 3 at this year's E3. For those who don't know, Fallout is a RPG with shooting mechanics, and plenty, plenty of gore and blood. Wonderful.

Also, I got a new D-link router. My Live connection works probably now.Yay for me.

Got Xbox Live

After through cuts and bruises(well, not really, did have cuts though...) I got Xbox live...

Story? Ah, ok.

Went to Maplin(uhh, yeah you might not know the shop), an electronics shop. Bought an ethernet cable, and a 'network card'(Adds an extra port, which I can connect my cable to). I had a buy a network card, as my computer didn't have a spare ethernet port.

Anyway, the price was £20 which was quite expensive. Considereing a XBL gold 12 month subscrpition is £40 over here.

Oh, and bout the cuts, I got them when I was putting that card into my computer....Ouch

Argh, one bad thing though, I was hoping to grab a few games( Halo 3, Dmc 4, Forza 2 and Legend of Spyro 3), however I coudln't even find those games, let alone buy them at a good price(as the January sale is on) :(

Gamertag: Sanuel09 (If your on my contact list, I already added ya)

EDIT: I'm getting connection problems on Live.... Gonna be a chore to fix.

Got my 360

It was quite a great deal from Argos(If you live in the US, you wouldn't know the shop)

-Xbox 360 Premium 60gb £162(Usual price is 170)

-Wireless Entertainment Pack(2 games, which were Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indy, and extra wireless controller) £11 (Usual Price is 60)

- PGR 4/ Sega Superstars Twin Pack £11 (Usual price 60)

So in total savings, it was £120. Which, if you ask me, isn't bad. Even though these 3 games that were forced to be included, they aern't bad, especially Lego Indy.

PGR 4 is, the best out of them of course, however, it umm.... Broke! It was working for awhile, but then it said the disc was unreadable:? So, I'll return it and get another copy. Also, 2 of my mates are gonna borrow me Lostplanet and Halo 2( I didn't get the chance to finish that game)

Oh right, forgot to mention my actual thoughts on the console. It is quite what I expected(that is great). Bad things is that it is quite noisy, and that damn power supply is massive.

I don't have Xbox live yet, coz I need a longer ethernet cable(the 1 included is too short) and I need a flippin network card coz my damn computer doesnt have an ethernet port! Imagine that....
