Online Gaming & Me

Playing online... it's the future, especially now that the PS3 and Xbox are promoting it so much, and games that once had multiplayer are now "online-only" for multiplayer, which was very disappointing on games like Burnout Paradise. Anyways, getting a descent internet connection without paying large bundles of money in my area is... difficult! There's all this fibre optics stories coming up but it's not being implemented well. Only the rich and privileged got a chance to play online as comfortably and lag-free as Gamespot and the rest of the world show us. But then again... maybe it was just me... But recently I got my hands on a pretty good connection, about 300kbps, which is amazing, but it's a modem so it's only on my PC, not the PS3. So now I'm going to play online... and I found one of my games lying around: Call of Duty World at War. I had finished it and played the missions over and over until I was totally tired then shifted to Modern Warfare 2 on the PS3. So here I am, connecting to the internet and preparing to play then I remembered the dreaded process of 'patches' that I had totally forgotten about because my connection had been WAY too slow to download the file before I got over the game. I looked it up and there was 1.1 to 1.6... not bad... then I saw the size of each patch: 500MB!! WHAT!? I just got a connection and now I've got to wait another few days before all those patches come through? I ran through the other games I had and saw that it was all the same story: Patches are HUGE! Not that I'm complaining, patches make the gaming experience a lot better and give lots of extras that you probably couldn't get on the console versions. Fixes for bugs, guns, and so on, it's cool. So note to self... DOWNLOAD PATCHES WHEN THEY COME OUT! Stacking up patches is never cool!!

Crash Bandicoot

It seems there is no future for Crash Bandicoot!!!

Crash Bandicoot 1-3, the PS versions, were the very reason why I made myself pass all ma exams so I can get a PSone!

It was the best time of my life. hustling to clear the difficult levels that had no health bar, needed quick reflexes and was more than a challenge for my new love for platformers.

I don't mean to go into a rant or anything, but since Naughty Dog sold Crash, it's been... well... crap! Some would say the new owners were trying to compete with greater, newer PS2 games like Ratchet n Clank and Jak n Daxter, but DUDE!! They'd end up adding a health bar, giving a greater space to roam (not complaining there but...), and changed his look, character and abilities.

DAMN! I could walk into a room and in a split-second tell that someone was playing crash, but now... well it sucks. The Crash Feel is gone and now its become just another platformer that'll die away sooner than later.

Oh well, I guess its on to God of War then...
