Actually LA is almost the size of NYC, but only has half the population of NYC. LA has about 4 million, and NYC has a little over 8 million.
Because NYC has people like Michael Bloomberg and Rudy Guliani who made and strictly enforced laws to make the city a much better place, whereas in LA, the officials don't put forth the least bit of effort to supress gangs or enforce laws like NYC did about 15 years ago. I mean, when's the last time you've heard anything about gang or crime problems in New York City? NYC faced massive, terrible crime problems during the late 70's and throughout the rest of the 80's as my parents have told me. In the years before I was born, they said that there were pickpockets, gangbangers, and prostitutes on almost every street. Fortunately for me, I was born right at the end of the bust period (1989) and ever since 1990, the city has become increasingly safer and cleaner. Porn shops have been closed down, racketeering by squee-gees has been outlawed, and prostitution has been banned. In Rudy Guliani's term as the mayor, the city's overall crime rate has dropped almost 50%. Los Angeles should learn a thing or two from the great city that New York City is today.
