@NoHyperbolePlz You should listen to GameSpot Gameplay or w/e that podcast is called. They'll inform you about their approach to gaming and reviewing games, plus it's a lot of fun. Each has their particular critique philosophy. However, I find that most of those in that podcast are skewed towards indie titles which is quite respectable as that sect of games is growing/improving.

As Bankai says below me, Tom and Carolyn are really against a lot of AAA titles. I find Carolyn to be really into the idea of women not being objects in games. This is understandable, but she repeats the sentiment quite often and as a person who likes the podcast a great deal it becomes off-putting. And yes, McShea also seems to have that fervor against AAA titles. Like I said, they really are all aboard that indie train, which is again a really great thing for a major video games news source.

I did want to mention that nobody should give a rats *** what this dude thinks. His job is to simply relay his personal experience with the game to you. His perspective on the matter may differ from yours but to grasp why an individual graded said game a certain way, one must derive the points said author made in the content of the review (i.e. the text). In other words, read what the author of the review said and understand that this person came into the review thinking that it was a low budget 2-D platformer. An 8.5 means that after acknowledging what the game was and the goal of the game designers, the author thought the game experience he/she had was great. Thanks for your time.

Hi! I just wanted to say that I really love your podcast. I enjoy how you articulate your opinions and the jokes. I find myself quite entertained during my lunch breaks on Saturday at work, listening to your podcast. I also wanted to mention that Carolyn is my favorite at the table. At first, I didn't know what to really think of her. As I've listened to her, I just really respect her views and her place at GameSpot. Furthermore, she pushes games to strive for more than just the objectification of women and violence. As I grow into an older man (21), some of these recurring themes throughout all of gaming are becoming more mundane and repetitive. So hearing Carolyn push video games into becoming a higher form of art, it's inspiring to hear that from someone in the gaming community. More than anything, she's just respectful and eloquent in terms of her language use. Perhaps I've rambled, but I love the podcast and hope to see it continued.

Also, I just wanted to mention that I've been on this site since at least 2003 and I signed up for an account in 2004. Ryan Davis played an important role in the ascension of GameSpot as a news source in that time period. He will be sorely missed. Thanks for your time ladies and gents.

@ruisan101 @experience_fade Why though? There are no used games on PC, at least none that I'm aware of. And most PC's are connected to the internet all the time as well.

I do not ordinarily comment on anything anywhere, but as I am a long-time member of GameSpot, I will offer my voice on the matter: Wow. The Witcher 2 was the most complex game that I ever played, yet it was so very simple. The routes that you could take w/ character customization and leveling were superb. Combat was simply the best I've played in any RPG and I've played Dark Souls, all 3 Mass Effect games, Fallout, Skyrim, etc. The game originally looked superb and I played it on the Xbox. I even enjoyed the backwards difficulty (tough in beginning, easier towards end) because it made me feel like I was doing something. Storytelling was mature and handled correctly, even with the nudity. The only problems I found were with the map/waypoint (as others have said) and traveling. I do not mind a game w/o fast travel, but at least allow me to run. The jogging mechanic was BS. Also, hopefully next gen will take away load times: One can only hope. That all being said, I'm excited as you all should be too.
