The Chosen Twelve -- November 2008

This month's Chosen Twelve is surprisingly lacking in the downloadable department. So, let's just get the one downloadable game over and done: A Kingdom For Keflings. This relaxing, yet oddly addicting game uses your newly minted "Avatar" to create buildings, put your people to work and odd menial tasks for the sake of it. The game, which is a cross between SimCity and Black and White, will set you back 800 Microsoft Points, but is more than worth the price.

Next, there's Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. On the outside, it's a cutesy platformer with vehicles. Once you dig into the game, it's an exhaustively creative mini-game collection with tons of creativity to boot. You can certainly go through the game without touching the vehicle creature (or getting any of the in-game references), but some of the best parts of the game involve creating your own vehicles to tackle some of the wackier challenges.

After that is the surprisingly fun Hasbro Family Game Night. You would think that putting Connect Four, Boggle, Battleship and other games would make for a bare-bones videogame and you would be right most of the time. Well, with the added modes for all of these classic board games, it may actually be worth purchasing the digital version to get these fun and different diversions of some of these classics...even though they could be better as downloadable anyway.

Finally, there's Animal Crossing: City Folk. In what could be called The Sims with personality and overly cute critters, Animal Crossing has been charming gamers and non-gamers alike with its time lapsed gameplay since the Gamecube and it continues with this version for the Wii.

With that, coimes November's winner for the Chosen Twelve:

Animal Crossing: City Folk

Developed and Produced by Nintendo

Nothing against the three other games, but Animal Crossing is a game that just simply caters to a mass audience and continues to captivate with its simple gameplay and it's exquisite writing and charm. Any of these games are worth the scratch, but for the widest amount of people, Animal Crossing: City Folk is tops.

Here are the 11 current members of the Chosen Twelve:

One more month, then the Chosen One is crowned for the year.
